Suspension

After much surfing, I'm thinking bilstein b4s all round, and H & R springs, has anyone tried this combination, I'd be very interested to here.

H&R were known to be wooden, I think @A2Steve had them at one point and wasn't impressed. KW have some with a reasonable drop, as do FK.

What wheel / tyre combo? What priorities? What have you got now and what have you tested?

Can a mod also please move this to the correct subforum?

I can comment on the b4 shocks and b3 springs super dooper have that set up on both our tdi a2s but b4 and H&R ? ..In my personal experience with H and R springs it’s a very firm ride I personally I’m not a fan I’ve had them on a couple of my toys in the past 911s in particular bone jarring ? if you live in the sticks will not do your crowns any good if you have them ..you will be back to your orthodontics specialist on a regular basis ?..if your a towny on A roads on the other hand wonderful track oriented set up ..?

Iv tested nothing, iv got standard suspension with 16 alloys.

Have you any pictures of your car, so I can see the drop

Have a look at @Darpod14 blue CS(below), it's running on bilstein B4 with Eibach lowering springs all round (Eibach E7910-140). To get 40mm drop will require coilovers (JOM blue lines have been used by a few members).

I can confirm that the H&R springs are VERY firm indeed. I have A2Steve’s car with these on and I am changing them for standard B4 Bilstein shocks all round and OEM monroe springs.
I will feedback on the difference it makes, but it is likely to improve comfort at a slight loss of handling (the current springs are lowered too)

I must be getting old, I normally AIM for a firm setup and lowered but it is just too harsh.
Cheers

The more i read , the harder this is getting . Im thinking bilstein B6/B8 and some good springs?

Are you sure that you want to go that low?
They are shortened shocks for cars that have been lowered by 40mm or more?

I find that 25mm is enough to give you a better “stance” especially if you have 17” wheels? But everyone is different (thankfully) and sone want to go LOW.
B4s are fine if you are just lowering up to 30mm (I believe).

The lower the firmer (just a general rule) imagine a steel bar 6 foot long and try and bend it, then shorten the same bar to 12” and try and bend it.

of course sone lowered springs aren’t actually shortened (they are compressed) but they have to be firmer to stop them bottoming out.

B4 shocks and a 25mm lowering might be a possible compromise?

Hi

Sorry, I had my B6 and B8 mixed up. You are correct of course.

I opted for the B4 because I am looking for comfort, the B6 is a sport version (but not an all-out sport one.). I wanted to make sure I felt the improvement in comfort. The B6 is probably fine but I was worried that I wouldn’tfeel a marked improvement so I “wimped out” and went B4.
They are being fitted in the next few days and I will let you know how it feels compared to the current set up.

B6 I wouldn’t say are sporty but they are massively updated the size of the piston is huge compared the oem. B4s are oem specs with updated build quality according to bilstein.

However the cost difference is huge! And even though I really nice my b6s I wouldn’t put them on another car due to the cost

But every car I ever buy is Steve B’s car. ?

I wanted to indicate which “Steve B’s car” I meant ?
