i did swap of power steering rack from vw/seat/skoda steering rack 023-0080-050-001 to my Audi a2 1.4tdi with power steering and sensor on steering rack 23-0080-053-001
i think that in any other cases tdi fsi or RHD swap will work or manual steering or power steering with sensor on steering wheel
you need to change pipes on rack, but it's not necessary there is plenty of room but i change as tdi has exhaust there as factory added heat cover there.
also there is a need if needed to change sensor counter plate
and then the swap comes in, as the alignment of these racks are not same as i was expecting
what i did
i removed screw insert and cut 8-10mm of steering rack frames from the side is to the engine then used metal grinder to fix up hole of bolt from uncut side so the bolt can to come in and lastly the part i cut placed between frame and rack in the driver side to lift it up, and my rack is perfectly aligned
you will need longer bolt with nut and good washer to tighten that lifted part
when tightening cut part to frame don't use too much force as there is few metal left it can crack
uncut lifter part is ok tighten as per manual
if you don't cut that part you will not be able to bolt on frame and impossible to mount universal joint on rack
removing and working on thing useful links:
Petrol engines Removing and installing power steering rack a2 audi with power steering
Diesel engines Removing and installing power steering box rack audi a2 with power steering
my problem leaded to swap broken a2 steering rack
ask in any case

- remove the seal with bent tool
- using bent tool gently from side to side lift the counter plate
- do same on other steering rack
- mount on you sensor on shaft in the middle of sensor hole
