Swindon Roundabout!!!

yep, have used it, but with a local guide in the passenger seat. Not so bad as you think once you get into it. You can get lost in there though. In the centre there is a roundabout which runs anti-clockwise!

The scary bit was when I gave my son a photo to show his driving instructor - the response was that he had never heard of anything like it. This from a professional.

I gather there is also one in Milton keynes, or is it Bury St Edmunds.

I've driven it a couple of times and, in all honesty, it's not as bad as it looks. Fortunately, I was forewarned and, on the first occasion, also had a local on hand to help me get into the right lanes - critical in the rush hour.

The biggest problem I have with it is that from ground level it's difficult to get an idea of the topology of the junction as a whole. It looks like - and is - a large expanse of tarmac with cars flying in every direction imaginable. Apparently, when it first opened, there were no kerbs at all, just paint. This meant that at less busy times you could pick your exit and drive straight across to it. Other such roundabouts in the UK - including the Hemel Hempstead one - have raised kerbs, grass and trees which reduces the visual overload as you approach it and makes them much easier to deal with IMHO.

Done it once. I was on holiday at the time down west. Nearly missed my tea going round and round and round....he he!

pberry.plus.com is wrong - the site they list in Tamworth is not a magic roundabout - you could call it the inner ring road except that all it goes around is a multiplex cinema.

Hemel Hempstead has had one for years, and there is something similar at the end of the Canvey Island causeway junction with the A13, although smaller than the others it seems more frightening due to bullying white van man and slow take off lorries, and women drivers who ignore the signs. Not a sexist remark just true, don't knock it till you've tried it!
