Hello everyone.
Audi a2 2001 (2002M / Y)
It was - Symphony II + Bose

Became - RNS-D (first generation from Audi S8 D2 97-99 year)

1. Tell me how to correctly implement button illumination?
(Where to get and where to insert the wire ...)
2. How to correctly turn the radio on and off when inserting / removing the ignition key?

Thanks in advance!

Afternoon,

I'm no expert on the RNS-D but I think I'm right in saying that to have the RNS-D shut down when your key is removed from the ignition it requires to be coded as it is installed into an A2 (as these were available for an A2) or 'lied to' and coded as if it is installed into an A6.

Someone like Tom @timmus will be along shortly to advise.

To the best of my knowledge, to have the buttons illuminate when the headlamp switch is on you must ensure that the CAN Hi and CAN Lo are connected.

Again Tom is the man for this as I understand that he may have the necessary connectors to adapt your ISO set up to that of the RNS-D.

Whilst you're waiting for someone more knowledgable to come along try this link to understand whats involved, although more RNS-E specific, it will give you an idea of what needs to be done.

Kind regards,

Tom

No can, No tmc tuner...

Hello
No can, No tmc tuner...
Hello again,

I thought this might be the case as your A2 looks to be from the earlier generation but couldn't quite remember the month/year of the change.

Your original head unit, the Symphony II must have the ability to have these lights on commands over K-Line.

I think this is one for Tom @timmus to answer as I understand he is currently assisting with someone else wishing to install the RNS-D. All these answers are probably on the tip of his tongue.

Kind regards,

Tom

I think this is one for Tom @timmus to answer
Thank you, it would be very nice! ?

Because I myself am not really friends with an electrician))
(But if you tell me where and where to pull the wire (and what color, for example), I will do everything as carefully and accurately as possible ... To disassemble the interior trim, to weave a braid of wires is not a problem!)
... And I can't find a competent one! solutions.
Workshops or private electricians do not stand on ceremony here and hang snot and cut the wiring !!!! ??And I want to keep the old connection as much as possible (if I suddenly decide to return to its original state or for new achievements)

Manufacturing plant - N— Audi AG Werk Neckarsulm

Model Year - 2002

Spike - Thanks, but there at the end of the text - the same problem ..
As far as I understand, I need to make 2 wires:
First, backlit (pictogram - sun)
Black bottom connector. But where to get it from?

The second is on "s-konst". This is how I understand it - control from the ignition key. But where to get it from?:(

K-line will not help in this.
But I suspect connecting the CAN bus will.
I think you have the answer in your two pictures, in the first one you can see which pins that have CAN low and CAN high in your vehicle plugs.
Now try to make sure you get those two wires to the CAN marked pins in the RNSD connector in second picture.

Assuming the button illumination and keyon/off works as in a Concert II this should do the trick.

Again, don't know if it applies but found this bit of info

Recode dash cluster using VCDS to enable Radio CAN communication (17 - Instruments, adaption, channel 62, set to 5 instead of 4).

Cheers Spike

Of course I tried to do this, just in case ... but no! rNS-D another CAN data bus is used
Bono,

I’m sure Tom will respond when he is available.

This is the sort of challenge that he is awesome at solving. I’d be very surprised if he’s not come across this before.

Best engage in conversation with him over PM.

Kind regards,

Tom

So, I will continue my research ..
I found out that the backlight of the buttons on the RNS-D - "analog", and TMC tuner is not needed for this.
I spent half a day behind the diagrams ...

As far as I understand :

1. Backlight wire gray \ blue 0.35mm

Comes from the light switch "E1".
Comes to 6 pin (pictogram - "sun") of the black connector.
In the picture - A

The same wire comes to the climate control unit in the black 16 connector on pin number 10 (
Rear window heating switch illumination)

2. "S-kont" wire
for 4 contacts - has the color black \ blue.
It comes from the ignition switch.
Through 38 fuse.
it is also on the 17-pin blue shoe, underneath the floor.
The same wire is used in the climate control unit on the black 16-pin connector - pin number 16

In my garage
climate control unit wiring available ...
I disassembled the 16-pin connector.
The pins I need numbered 10 and 16 turned out to be empty

There is a black \ blue wire, but it is numbered 3

I didn't dare to connect it ... Maybe try?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I disconnected the black 16-pin connector from the climate unit, and turned on the side lights ...
The climate light didn't work, but the heated seat light came on!
Having removed the seat heating connector, I saw a gray \ blue wire.
I tried connecting it to the RNS backlight pin.

Done!

Thank you all for your answers and help.
Separately - Tom!?

Everything is connected and working!?

In the next post I will deal with poor radio reception!
(hopefully with your help:))
