Hi all I am currently trying to install a double din A2 Symphony stereo but when connecting up and entering the code the lcd Displays text saying Telefon. The Car didn't come with its original stereo so trying to install this one
Now checking the connections my vehicle doesn't have the 4th plug in picture could this be the issue? Any way round it ?

I suspect you have a short to ground on the mute wire. If not using the factory phone then isolate this wire.

There may be an option in the menus to turn off phone function ( hold TP button? )

Hi my A2 doesn't have a Factory Phone or the Additional wiring plug which goes in to the Telefon/Nav Port .
I purchased this Symphony but not sure if it will be fully compatible with my A2 maybe?

AS I said try removing the mute lead from the connector and isolate it. If it is grounded it is acting as if the phone is in use. There MAY be an option in the menu to turn off the phone altogether, but do not know. Now I am not talking about the extra port but the mute line in your existing 8 pin black connector. I have never had a symphony connected to VCDS so do not know if it can be coded from there.

What WAS wired in as a stereo? Any hands free or bodging of wires?

Hi I see what you mean I will give that a try and feedback cheers.

Hi Nic Nac,

Your car is wired for a Generation 2 stereo (Symphony 2) and you’re trying to install a Generation 1 stereo (Symphony 1).
You’ll need a Symphony 2 stereo or you’ll need to adapt the car’s wiring to work with the earlier family of stereos.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi yes I believe this is true , Do you think I could adapt the wiring easily to make it work on my A2
I will try what audifan has said with the Mute wire and see if that works.

The Gen 1 stereos are operated using a series of 12V analogue triggers. The Gen 2 stereos are operated using a digital interface called CAN.
These two systems are fundamentally incompatible. No amount of moving wires around is going to make this work as it should. Your car is wired for a CAN-operated stereo, and you’re trying to install a stereo that requires 12V triggers that your car doesn’t have.
You either need to create and install a new wiring loom that provides the necessary 12V trigger system for a Gen 1 stereo, or you need to fit a Gen 2 stereo.

Cheers,

Tom

Morning,

Just seen this Symphony 2 on eBay. No connection to the seller. Stated as new at £50 with best offer along with £20 postage.

This could solve all your compatibility issues for not a massive amount of money.

Kind regards,

Tom

That would be a Shame as I prefer the look and feel of the Gen 1 Symphony than the Gen 2 .

Good spot,

Apologies for the false lead, I didn't fully read the listing and just went off the advertisement title after a quick search.

I'm sure someone will be able to help you out soon enough with the correct part. I guess it would be possible to trim an A4 head unit down as we do with the RNS-E but have never done this so just speculation really.

Kind regards,

Tom

No problem at all mate . I think it could work but like you say some retrimming work will be required.

Hi Nic Nac,

I think I have a legit’ A2 Symphony 2 in my stocks that I’ll happily sell for the same amount as the A4 unit on eBay.
Alternatively, if you’re able to put the car under my nose, I can install the necessary wiring looms to make your later A2 work with the earlier generation stereos, allowing you to use the Symphony 1 that you’ve already got. This isn’t a simple process, though, so not something that can be done remotely.

Cheers,

Tom
