Tailgate boot release stops working on sunny days ☀️

Has anyone else had this? – the boot release button (above number plate) works perfectly all year until the car is in the sun for an hour and then there's very little action when pressed – it's working as I can hear but it sounds weak and can't open the boot.

It's fine most of the time but I've had to flip the seats forward to retrieve my cold beers, again

Put the beers in the rear footwell and you can forget the weak tailgate button - get your priorities straight man :)

Being serious for a minute - mine did this today (or rather - it took a couple of goes to get it to open and then afterwards it didn't latch cleanly until I parked under the supermarket out of direct sunlight for a while and then was able to get it to lock home properly). Beginning to think this one is going like my other Tdi A2 where the rear solenoid ailed over time and then failed completely the afternoon of the Beast from the East blizzard when I was repeatedly going in and out of the boot to get the snow shovel to help dig folk out. Got a second-hand solenoid off here, waited for weather to improve and then fought the boot lid inner trim off and replaced it.

Does it work from the remote fob?
If it does, it's the handle switch.
If it doesn't, it's probably the solenoid, but could be CCCU.
As always you can see what's happening at the CCCU with VCDS Measuring Blocks.

The fault lies with the solenoid. I’ve seen this countless times. Your description of the fault perfectly matches the known symptoms.

Thanks as always for very knowledgeable and definitive answers to my issue, I'll get on and see if I can get the part replaced. I've had all the inner boot trim off before without breaking clips... and I greased the ends when refitting so hopefully easy access and a simple fix.

Probably keep any essentials, beer etc, in the footwell for the time being as advised. ;)
