[Tailgate Button/Switch Rubber Repair] - Glue-lined Heat-shrink

Hi all,

This is another one of my attempts to fix something that I cannot source down here.

The idea is to use glue-lined heat-shrink, I used 24mm diameter that goes down to 8mm when shrunk.

See the attached pictures because the procedure is self-explanatory:

1. Cut two pieces. Account for overlap at both sides.
2. Mark out where they have to be trimmed so that they fit nicely at the back of the switch.
3. When the glue begins to melt pin it down with a flat metal object, e.g. a drift or a socket extension.
4. Glue the edges together like a candy-wrap and trim them so that the ends fit the housing.

The same release handle is also fitted to some models of A4 and A4 avant so that may increase your parts source a little.

I got the feeling that despite being crude, the heatshrink will probably outlive the switch! I replaced it 3 years ago with one from steve. It was used mind you.
