Tdi 75 oil leak at the back of the engine

Potentially as the engine is no longer breathing through the EGR.

Did you like my pencil trick?

Hi Guys:

yesterday I finally got time to take EGR off, cleaned it put it all back together, but my oil leak not from that area.
Also checked the Rocker Cover Gasket as per @Robin_Cox kitchen roll trick, but no oil there either.

Looked at the pipe end attached to turbo covered in oil, cleaned the oil, noticed a dublie clip there, thought that it may be
the wrong type, please see pictures, as the spare pipe set I have are different spring loaded clips.
Please confirm which is correct
I can see under the car 2 oil leaks, still to determine where the source is.
Thanks

those pipes are manufacturer-supplied with the spring clips as in the lower image - you hold them open with a pair of locking pliers. Jubilee clips though are easier to use for DIY purposes so I imagine that one is non-original?

Thanks for clarifying that Robin, I shall change it to spring type today & hope for the best

The oil leak on mine is far too much to leave with to a point, I decided the under tray was beyond cleaning & binned it.
It looks like, I have my work cut out, have found & resolved so many issues on this car, but this oil leak looks like a challenge.
I am making a note of all the points made, hopefully will get to the bottom of it soon.
Thanks again

I'm at the same point and I'm not sure I've got the will to keep going.I'm losing oil from the manifold gasket - that I know - but there is too much to just be this. I had the gasket cover completely replaced last year at WOM as oil was leaking down past the tandem pump and I'm now losing even more oil than I was before. @depronman fitted an EGR bypass so its not coming from this also - it must be turbo pipe related I guess or a split oil fill pipe (I got one from Steve just in case).

I've never stopped fixing this car and quite frankly I think I'm nearing the end!

Strangely, I have been under the car all day yesterday & today cleaning the oil from under the car, changing EGR etc hoping to see the cause, as booked for MOT tomorrow.
The leak on the floor is black in some spots & clear in other spots, which makes me think, I have an oil leak & a break fluid leak as well.
If I find either, I will let you know & hopefully if you find yours, perhaps let me know.
best of luck.
Cheers
Ami

Hi Graham:
Having replaced the EGR, is your pencil trick to block the pipe that connects to the EGR tube shown Red arrow in the picture below.
Thanks

Yes you block the rubber pipe that connects onto that metal port with the valve lubricating lead pencil or a bolt.

After 5 litres of break cleaner spraying, looking, cleaning & as you said, sure enough oil flowing through the very corner of the Rocker cover and
covering everything on the way down, don't know how I missed it with the kitchen roll trick, but this find was after a lot of cleaning.
I don't know if you can see in the first 2 pictures,
so now need to source & buy the correct gasket & replace :(

The third picture shows a sensor with nothing connected to it

Not 100% sure but sensor looks like oil level sender. Someone must have by passed it. Any warning on the autocheck?

I have no warning lights at all on the car, trying to see if I can find a electrical connector loose around the area, unfortunately the more I clean the more pipes, cables etc I find covered in oil that needs cleaning, very tight under there.

Remove the cover and carefully clean and check the gasket, also check the sealing face for flatness and replace only if damaged. Here is the manual page and it is important to note the torquing sequence as well as the locations to ADD SEALANT.

Thanks very much indeed.

I have a similar leak..
Is there a list of parts (pipes/egr/rocker cover gasket etc) so that I can attack the job and ensure its sorted?
Anyone have a diagram of this area with part number/descriptions?
Just a thought..

Many thanks..
Your first link is for the Tdi ...correct?
I need to have a more detailed look tomorrow.

Correct for the 1.4 tdi. If you need other diagrams, just navigate back from there, by clicking on Group Parts, then select the group required.

Just to let every one know, once the EGR was removed & cleaned with diesel, the area cleaned, the oli leak seems to have stopped, hope this helps another member.
Cheers,
Ami
