TDI 90 service help/ tips wanted please!

The six sided socket spreads the torque over the flats ( nut ) of the filter cover. The 12 sided concentrated the torque onto a much reduced area greatly increasing the chance of the socket slipping and chewing up the relatively soft plastic filter cover.

Well it's done now! I agree a six sided would have been better though.
And yes a gorilla on steroids did fasten that and the oil drain up last time! ??
Judging by the look of the oil filter ( the dog has dug up cleaner looking things) I'll probably change it all again in a couple hundred miles.
Any thoughts on that pipe I pictured above please?

Yes to changing in say 500 miles once you’ve done a few good long runs to get it nice and hot.

You may also wish to consider a detergent oil flush such as the comma one Opie Oils sell, unlike other flushes it doesn’t have harsh cleaners that risk breaking chunks of dirt off and blocking oilways, it just contains additional cleaning additives. But really you can achieve the same thing by doing a couple of short mileage changes in quick succession.

Get some brake cleaner to it, don't leave it on too long, wipe it clean and see if the oil comes back.

Hi
Is this the bracket mentioned above? It's broken off, even though it looks ok.
Also it's very oily around this pipe, in other picture. What is it please?
Thank you again for all your help ?⭐
Is that the turbo intercooler pipe? lower one from side of engine to the lower intercooler housing feed? Looks in bad shape!

Yes I think it is, I've opened another thread about it. Going to have a clean of it this afternoon and see if I can spot what's gone wrong.

The same bracket on one of my cars has broken off, it actually isn't really an issue.

Re: the oily pipe, that's the lower intercooler boost pipe, I would clean it off and monitor for where the oil is coming from. Also it does look like your clip holding your alloy pipe snug to the sump has broken off - SEE THIS THREAD for further details on this clip and why it may not necessarily be a bad thing.
