Just bought this today and wondered if it had ever been an A2OC owners car before?
Anyone looked at it and walked away etc?
Cheers

I looked at this car at 12pm flywheel was rattling and rough start up… the rattle can effect didn’t do much for me either….

Quite rare to see a 05 plate 90. There is an MOT mileage discrepancy but perhaps a mistake by the tester.

I agree it isn't the best but a 90 TDI twisted my arm. It is going to be a project to go along with my 1.4 petrol keeper. Just need to get the Blue 'X-reg' MOTd and gone. 3 A2's is one two many for me.

Lovely base for a project so ideal… good luck to you… where in Cheshire are you? I’m also in Cheshire

Cheers you may have helped me.
I actually drove through Alsager to collect it to avoid the roadworks. I Paid him £1050 so don't think I overpaid

Once you get a DMF and clutch in it’ll be transformed. Very cheap for a 90 with prospects. Well done
Cheers, Only driven 15 miles home so far but they definitely shift.
I don't think it is the DMF, I believe it is the alternator freewheel pulley. I may be wrong but I used to have TDI Passats and they regularly went and it sounds like that to me.
I have just ordered an SKF pulley so Fingers crossed 🤞

Ah so a mention on here too....
So how crusty is the rear suspension 😉 ?
Seems to have been a feature of the last few MOTs.
MOT Check
Hope there isn't an issue with the DMF and you manage to achieve a cost effective fix.

Very, I had a quick look at the rear earlier and noticed how rusty the brake backing plate was, so I touched it and it virtually disintegrated in my hand. It will be a cool summer project (if we get a summer...) It's a TDI 90 so it had to be purchased

I have a MK2 Golf and had to replace the rear brake backing plates on that. They are sandwiched between the rear axle frame and the stub axles. I suspect it is the same on the A2.
I was assuming there was an issue with the rear axle frame. I thought they were thick enough to outlast the life of the car but seen a recent one that was very crusty that was shared on the MK2 Facebook chat!
Hope you manage to fix it up without too much expense.

I've got a TDI 90 also in Cheshire .
Mine has rear disc rather than drums so the backplate as such is just a dust shield. Easy enough to change once you get the retaining bolts off . Good luck with the new A2 . Mine also had a rattly alternator freewheel pulley. Once replaced that made a huge difference.

Had a similar noise on a Skoda superb with the 2.0 TDI engine but that turned out to be a broken crank. That's a whole different story.

Looks like someone else has had the same theory about the noise being the alternator pulley but they have rounded the internal thread so the right tool just slides around:(. It did sound quite noisy after I removed the belt and spun it but now looks like I need to find an alternator:oops:

I guess the A2 spares guys on here might be able to supply a replacement alternator at a reasonable cost.
I was going to suggest a supplier for reconditioned one but you won't want to do that if I doesn't fix it.
