A word to the wise! The thermostat supplied by ECP for my car does not fit.
Have just ordered an Audi one for Friday. Very expensive!

Fairly sure Febi units fitted
ECP can be eratic
i'd be interested if anyone has used this thermostat successfully, i need one for an AMF tdi. the ebay listing says its not compatible, but thats not always correct...cheers

I have fitted the febi to atl and amf

Replacing original part number 044 121 113
Common component to many 1.4 and 1.9 tdi

If you're talking about the ECP Circoli one, I've fitted one of those to both a BHC and an AMF without issue. I would imagine that a suitable Febi would be just as good. Should be pointed out that mine couldn't be inserted by twisting as per 'workshop manuals' into the fingers in the thermostat housing pipe as they were snapped off removing the housing to access the thermostat - and once knackered, the housing went back onto the block with the thermostat and subsequent o-ring pushed home beforehand. Doing it with an intact housing with fingers, you would put the o-ring into the housing first followed by the stat, then install the assembly onto the block and bold home.

I've looked up the Febi 17976 part number on Febi's own website. https://partsfinder.bilsteingroup.com/en/article/febi/17976

Something should be stressed - with parts this generic you can have confusing info on modern sites. The thermostat is one of those components that has been carried over on countless VAG vehicles over about 35+ years when I've checked compatibility (obviously not with the 1.6 FSi owing to the double cooling circuit and electronically-controlled thermostat system) - but on this occasion the Febi 17976 number initially appears to only be suitable for 1980s B2/B3 Audi 80 diesel models using Febi's guide, However switch the manufacturer dropdown at the same stage to Skoda, and it lists the Fabia 1.4 Tdi of the early 2000s which is the AMF (to begin with), just like the A2, as well as countless 1.9tdi engines from the 90s until mid 00s. So - probably the right part for an AMF or BHC A2.

The ECP thermostat I bought for my AMF also didnt fit, waste of time and coolant, bought correct one from audi £££££ in the end all good now. though. ECP are a pain the ass!!

Euro car parts do the Circoli one for around £4.20 and I have fitted dozens of them on my own A2's and for numerous A2OC members, never had a problem with them and they are identical in every detail to the Audi stat that is normally what I am removing with the exception of the VAG logo

The retaining fingers in the housing often break, this is not a problem as they are only there to aid fitting, it is equally possible to fit the stat without the fingers

You ve obviously got lots of experience Paul.

Though my 1st attempt at this I did try and get the supplied ECP Circoli 209 66 0160 thermostat into the housing as one of the fingers was missing but couldnt get the thing to sit in place, also this product had a rubber ring around it as well as the o ring but try as i might it simply would not go in!

Bought Audi part went straight in no problem.

The ECP Circoli would not fit regardless of the mounting fingers. The raised frame would not fit into the plastc housing. I suppose I could have ground the housing to fit, but why risk a damaged housing
