TDi gearchange stiff and also vibration

hi

i think my A2 is on its original clutch has done 106k miles now
at around 2200rpm there is some vibration from gearbox i can hear this
from inside the car...also the gearchange has become stiff
especially third gear which sometimes crunches or changes
very quickly with very little feel...kinda clunky

any help please?
 
Sounds like a gearbox problem, rather than a clutch fault - if it were the clutch, then it would have no effect whilst actually driving, as it isn't engaged!

Sounds like you may need the services of a gearbox specialist - maybe take the opportunity to re-do the ratios to something more suitable. There are various places advertised in the usual places and also in the back of Audi Driver magazine.

i have the solid flywheel
but maybe the teeth are worn because the starter has been making
a shreiking sound for like the last year...

Mike do you know any gearbox specialists in Yorkshire area?
whats the price of a new gearbox?

The starter screech is almost certainly unrelated and will be due to a lack of lubrication or the solenoid not disengaging quickly enough.

I don't know of any specialist gearbox people in the area, but the price of a new gearbox is about the £1700 mark, plus the old one back at a dealer.

I'll take a look in this months Audi Driver mag, but you'll be lucky to find one around in there.

Have I read someone that there are some kind of linkage or bands that can be adjusted for gear selection?? Sorry to be so vague but I can only think I've read it here sometime ago.

I wonder if the flywheel has come loose? Does that happen on A2's ... I know it can happen on other cars. This might explain the erratic clutch behaviour and the vibration.

Just a thought.
 
on a few occasions on start up there has been
some rattling vibration coming from gearbox area
this is only for around 5 secs.

when going down hill and i pop into third from fourth it makes
a screeching kind of sound...

im hoping its not gearbox
 
It could well be the starter motor, as the start up sound is what you'd hear if the solenoid wasn't disengaging. What ever, it needs diagnosing by a specialist, who isn;t necessarily going to rip you off.
