tdi poor cold running

My A2 TDI has a problem. When used from cold it runs ok for a couple of miles then loses power. This is followed by the warning ! on the display and then the abs / asr lights lighting up. If I turn the car off and restart its OK (sometimes need to start a couple of times to clear problem.) When its warmed up no problem. Its not the MAF sensor as I've tried it for a few days with it disconnected and there is no difference. Any ideas. Can anyone recommend a local specialist in the Lincoln area

If someone near you could offer a diagnostic scan that would help narrow down the potentials. See if there are any members with these capabilities in your area.

Last winter this once happened with my tdi too. It was cold, -10 or less. Switched on the engine and started to reverse the car. Engine felt lazy, abs light showed up after less than 50 m. Switched on again and so far it hasn't happened again.

Update

had a scan problem is injector 2 not working, mechanic thinks its the in-head wiring loom failed, cars going in Monday for replacement.

injector harness

Yep thats fixed it. Faulty harness inside the cylinder head. I have kept the old one so will do a bit if poking around and probing to establish exactly where it is faulty.

Nice one Andy, thats a result.

I suspect its something to do with the resistance of the copper as it ages. I could find no visible fault with mine, just oxidised copper (black) at the bare ends behind the terminals. I believe the current is extremely small to fire the injector solenoids and any extra resistance in the cable causes issues.

All the best.
