TDI SPORT 2004 Front Shocks and Springs Recommnedation

Hi,

Just fitted a new driver side front wheel bearing and the drivers side spring has snapped within a couple of days!! I was just going to replace the spring but seeing as car has done 107K and just had dogbone and remap I thought maybe fit new springs and shocks to the front if not too much money.

As its a sport would rather keep it standard, can anyone recommend springs and shocks and any part numbers would be a big help so I can cost up?

Cheers

I can only speak from my own experience on a tdi 75 ..I fitted bilstein b4 and b3 shocks and springs on all 4 corners recently and we are thrilled with the results a transformation ..Menno has given you a lot of reading for you to soak up all very worthwhile ..you can mix and match and maybe get a better result ..but if it was me stick with the bilstein products as mentioned above .I was so pleased I bought a second set for another a2 put away as they were on offer ..( note if your doing the springs and shocks you want to replace top mounts bumpstops and sleeves while it’s all apart not expensive ) good luck .?

thanks lads,

I'll cost up the bilstein b4 shocks and B3 springs and the top mounts etc.. and see what the damage is.

Is the bilstein b4 - ref 22-105813 correct for the sport model or the SE or does it not matter?

With regard to springs i take it Bilstein B3 Spring 37-147679 - standard chassis relates to the SE and
Bilstein B3 Spring 37-147662 - standard chassis reinforced version relates to the sport?

Cheers

A listing on autodoc.co.uk says that the Bilstein B4 22-105813 front shock absorber matches the following OEM part numbers:

What OEM part numbers are your front and rear shocks and springs? (you can get these numbers from an Audi dealer's parts department - just ask them for a quote.

Bilstein B3 front spring 37-147679 matches OEM part number 8Z0411105AL (which is the front spring for the Audi A2 1.4 diesel without sunroof).

Bilstein B3 front spring 37-147662 is used to replace two different specification springs with OEM part numbers 8Z0411105AM (petrol without sunroof) and 8Z0411105AH (1.4 diesel with sunroof).

Non of these Bilstein front springs are for a sport model. They are standard height springs.

My preference would be Spidan or Suplex springs rather than Bilstein springs. Bilstein don't give the specification of their springs whereas Spidan and Suplex do. Bilstein also tend to have more of a one size fits all approach - at least with some of their springs.

Hi Lads,

tried Lookers Audi but was told they dont give the part numbers out when I asked for a price. idiots wanted £8387 for 1 spring and £103 per shocker- Robbers!!!

Surely there must be a way of simply ordering 1.4 tdi Sport without sunroof springs?

Is there another motor factor who can quote of the chassis number?

Talk to spring loaded down in Devon I bet he quotes 37-147679 for front springs ..
Tel 01409211663
He knows his stuff I have bought off him before including an Audi A2 set but his prices went up and I shopped around and got a better deal ..but he will give you correct info .

Wow, think they lost the decimal point!

You could take a sponge and water and clean up your identifying colour code pattern on the springs if accessible. You can then establish the part number from here......

Just an idea.

You could try your local TPS who I expect can source the part numbers if friendly - some seem to guard their trade only policy.

wow I think I would have had a sense of humour failure at £8k for a spring !!!!

What coil springs P/no would you recommend for my car
Tdi 75bhp sport with oss
I have bilstein b4 ready to fit.
Thanks
I don't have part numbers for the Sport models. But here are the part numbers for the standard ride height springs. For the 1.4 diesel with OSS the OEM part number for the front spring is 8Z0411105AH and the OEM part number for the rear spring is 8Z0511115BB. You will notice that the 1.4 diesel with OSS has softer front springs and harder rear springs than the 1.4 diesel without OSS. If you don't often carry rear passengers, you might want to consider using the softer rear springs from the 1.4 diesel without OSS and/or the harder front springs from the 1.4 diesel without OSS. If you want to match the hard ride of the Sport model, maybe go for the front springs from the 1.4 diesel without OSS and the rear springs from the 1.4 diesel with OSS. If you go for hard front springs and hard rear springs, you may want to add a bit of compliance by fitting 15" wheels with 185/60R15 tyres or even 185/65R15 tyres with the 185/60R15 tyres being the more sporty option at the expense of a slightly harder ride. It also depends what your starting point is. If you are on 17" wheels, then changing to 16" wheels will be an improvement. Spidan tend to be available from ebay.de whereas Suplex tend to be available from ebay.co.uk As the specification of Spidan and Suplex springs always seem to be the same they might even be the same springs, just marketed under different brand names. They are both made in Germany. From a safety perspective, some would say don't go softer than the standard rear springs on the OSS cars due to the car's higher centre of gravity. However, my own view is that if you rarely carry rear passengers or heavy rear luggage, I would go for the non-OSS rear springs. It's easy enough to change rear springs, so you could try both the harder and the softer rear springs.

The Audi A2 springs are covered by five front springs and three rear springs (not including the Sport models, which I haven't listed).

Five Front Springs

8Z0411105AL
(Front springs for 1.4 diesel without OSS and 1.6 petrol with or without OSS)
Length 338mm, Thickness 11.5mm
Spidan 49515, Suplex 03170

8Z0411105AM
(Front springs for 1.4 petrol without OSS)
Length 330mm, Thickness 11.25mm
Spidan 49527, Suplex 03171

8Z0411105AH
(Front springs for 1.4 diesel with OSS)
Length 338mm, Thickness 11.25mm
Spidan 56830, Suplex 03206

8Z0411105AJ
(Front springs for 1.4 petrol with OSS)
Length 328mm, Thickness 11mm
Spidan 56831, Suplex 03207

8Z0411105B
(Front springs for 1.2 diesel)
Length 293mm, Thickness 11mm
Spidan 56832, Suplex 03205

Three Rear Springs

8Z0511115BB
(Rear springs for all models with OSS except 1.2 diesel)
Length 339mm, Thickness 10.25mm
Spidan 56833, Suplex 03208

8Z0511115AS
(Rear springs for all models without OSS except 1.2 diesel)
Length 338mm, Thickness 9.75mm
Spidan 49546, Suplex 03172

8Z0511115AL
(Rear springs for 1.2 diesel)
Length 328mm, Thickness 9.25mm

The below springs are what was fitted to the Audi A2 1.6 petrol with OSS. ie. hard front springs, and hard rear springs. The front springs are the same as the Audi A2 1.4 diesel without OSS, and the rear springs are the same as the Audi A2 1.4 diesel with OSS. This would give you the most sporty/hard ride on standard ride height springs.

8Z0411105AL Suplex 03170

8Z0511115BB Suplex 03208

These are the standard ride height springs that the Audi A2 1.6 petrol with OSS uses and should work well with the Audi A2 1.4 diesel with OSS. In conjunction with 195/55R15 tyres on 6J rims, this setup should give a reasonably compliant ride.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all responses, sorry about typo earlier dealer quoted £83 per spring!!!

Anyway mate is an Audi Tech so gave him chassis number for my 2004 1.4 tdi sport without OSS and he sent me a parts dept screenshot of OEM spring part is ref 6Q0 411 105 AC. So I'm guessing that means a Suplex 39205(£36 each) or Spidan 85703(£32 each) - This seems correct as existing spring has 3 blue dots and spidan and suplex both refer to 3 blue dots.

He also gave me OEM shocks ref as 8Z0 413 031 AC so that would relate to Bilstein B4 22-196309/Monroe 742042SP or others on Autodoc.

Anyway I want to keep it OEM standard so I'll have a shoparound tomorrow and see who is the cheapest.

Thanks for everyones help.

These Sachs springs match the OEM springs for the "standard ride height" Audi 1.4 diesel without OSS and the Audi 1.6 petrol without OSS.

8Z0411105AL Sachs 997854 front springs

8Z0511115AS Sachs 996648 rear springs

As above the bilstein I gave you part number of above 37-147679 give same ride height on the 1.4tdi without oss great ride ..it’s now down to your choice as several options have been put forward ..

6Q0411105AC has 2 red dots and 3 blue dots.

6Q0411105AC doesn't look like it's a sports front spring as it has 342mm length and 11.25mm thickness, according to Spidan and Suplex.

I've come across this OEM part number before, as I was going to suggest it as an alternative to OEM part number 8Z0411105AL to soften the ride but keep the ride height about the same. When you choose a softer spring you need to increase the uncompressed length of the spring if you want to keep the unladen ride height the same as the same weight will compress a softer spring more. Maybe a 4mm increase in length to match a 0.25mm reduction in coil spring thickness, or an 8mm increase in length to match a 0.5mm reduction in spring coil thickness (as a very general guide).

If you do want 6Q0411105AC then avoid Bilstein B3 springs at all costs. Bilstein sell just one spring to replace three OEM part numbers - 6Q0411105AC, 6Q0411105AD, and 6Q0411105AE which all have different lengths. The spring ending in AE is 23mm longer than the spring ending in AC. I like Bilstein shocks but not their springs due to their one size fits all approach and Bilstein not making the specification of their springs available.

6Q0411105AC Sachs 993180 front springs

8Z0411105AH Sachs 997853 front springs

Just going though this thread, looking for some part numbers for a smoother ride on my TDI 75 (no OSS), I have the standad setup at the moment, which I find quite hard and jarring.
195/50/r16 tyres
Just to confirm that everyone recomends
Bilstein b4 shocks
Spidan 49546
for the rear springs and
Spidan 49515 for the fronts
