TDI SPORT 2004 Front Shocks and Springs Recommnedation

Just going though this thread, looking for some part numbers for a smoother ride on my TDI 75 (no OSS), I have the standad setup at the moment, which I find quite hard and jarring.
195/50/r16 tyres
Just to confirm that everyone recommends
Bilstein b4 shocks
Spidan 49546
for the rear springs and
Spidan 49515 for the fronts

I'm not sure that everyone would recommend the Spidans:

I'm going with Bilstein B3s myself.

49527 & B6 or B8 (same except length of piston, got B8 myself; woo-hoo keep the bends coming beebie!!) or FSD's (tad more comfort I suppose).
Thanks for that, that's excatly what I needed.
Presumably that is for the front, what about the back, do you have number for that?

Err,... B8 shocks too in combination with some progressive Pi lowering springs and they are fine by me, but again a personal opinion.

Had the Pi lowering on the front also with the B8's but that was bone hard and to me unbearable.
So for the rear it's trial and error I guess..... At least it's a 20 minutes job to replace the aft springs.

Consider changing to 15" wheels as the increased sidewall height will help soften the ride. Non-standard 15" tyre sizes A2 owners have been known to fit include 185/60R15, 185/65R15, 195/55R15, 195/60R15. Out of those four tyre sizes, 185/65R15 should give the softest ride, followed by 195/60R15, followed by 185/60R15, with 195/55R15 being the hardest riding out of those four tyre sizes.

185/60R15 tyres have about the same outside diameter as 195/50R16 tyres. 185/60R15 tyres mounted on 6Jx15 ET35 rims may be the sweet spot between comfort and sportiness. It also keeps the gearing close to standard.

See thread #17 for standard Sachs springs for the TDI 75 (no OSS).

If you fit softer front springs, the rear springs might then feel too hard.

You could even fit 185/65R14 tyres on 5Jx14 ET35 rims. However, these are plain steel rims and not very attractive. Maybe best to stick to 15" wheels where more attractive rims are available.

Keeping the standard springs keeps the standard handling and relatively flat cornering. It also helps to prevent bottoming of the suspension when going over speed humps.
