Tdi75 idle speed RPM

I’ve searched but can’t find anything relating to what a normal TDi75 should idle at when warm. It may be hidden by all the FSi posts though

Mine will idle at just a hair under 1000RPM and no lower. That seems fast to me. Especially when petrol cars tend to idle warm at 750-800. Even after an hour of driving at a rock steady 90C it will sit completely still at 975 or thereabouts.

Does the A2 just idle fast or do I have a problem?

I’ve mentioned before the funny noise on idle - I’m thinking it might be the alternator tensioner. Could it be related? My MPG has also been pretty abysmal at 55 - mostly motorway - but I assumed that was the cold (still snowy on my way to work)

Help!

My tdi idles about 950 ish. Its fine when hot but a tad slow when cold as the engine is a bit lumpy. Still learning about this engine!
Lets see what its like after a few tanks laced with Stanadyne Injector cleaner!

My TDi75 (year 2001 and 130K miles ) idle at just a under 1000RPM. i wish if i made photo when i got the car years ago. MPG is around 70(may be due to my slow driving :) )

these all sound like minor errors on the rev counter as all of the TDI engines are set to idle at 950RPM in the maps
As such the ECU will constantly adjust the fueling to obtain a 950 rpm idle, if there are other problems with the engine this speed may hunt by plus / minus 25 rpm or so, but a good well sorted 3 pot TDI engine when warm will idle at spot on 950.
Using VAGCOM to monitor the RPM it is normally 950 +/- 10 (which you would never see as movement on the RPM dash dial

cheers,
Paul
