Thanks to Audi & Mike

Absolutely agree with all that's been said so far.

The A2OC isn't a one-man operation and although I have taken the lead on this matter, there are, as Erstens points out, many other people who have been involved.

The very reason why we won an award for information last year and the reason we are such a helpful source of information is because of the participation of ALL the members.

So, whilst I appreciate the comments and thanks given, I am not the only one around here who deserves it.

Cheers,

Mike

I'm not sure how much the internet benefits manufacturers, but for owners it is invaluable

An interesting point, and one worthy of a debate in its own right. The internet has indeed changed the rules for manufacturers, as there is simply no place to hide the way there used to be. Those that don't recognise this will suffer, but those that wise up to it will prosper.

The VAG Group have been woefully behind the times generally in this regard (ditto their new owners Porsche). I have had occasions to argue with VW before, and their "head in the sand" attitude was staggering.

I particularly pleased to see Audi come clean on this issue, even if it did require pressure from us as informed customers. Here's hoping we see lots more of this attitude (though I'm not holding my breath!)

:)

A Fantastic result for the A2OC ,

A Great job by ALL involved especially MIKE who acted
as our spokesperson on this problem , will this be classed as a
general recall on all A2's or is it just a case of if you report it
they will investigate .....
As there must be many A2 Owners out there
that would be unaware of this problem , will it just be
ourselves the collective few that participate in the A2OC
that get the problem sorted .....
Mike i must get you to check my Hinges as i cant see anything
how long would this recall last for if you noticed this problem in say a couple of years ....

Once again thanks Mike
WE ARE THE COLLECTIVE !!!!

WE ARE THE COLLECTIVE !!!!
You're not going to graft bits of metal into me matey! I'm not going to be assimilated into the Borg!!

This is NOT going to be a general recall, but will be dealt with on a case by case basis, either when owners discover a crack and take the vehicle in, or possibly when the car is in for routine servicing.

If Audi UK will be writing to all A2 owners, I haven't been told about it and to be honest, I don't think it would serve much use, as most ownership records will be out of date by now. If people want to rush up to people getting into A2s that they don't know, to ask them if they can check their hinges, it's entirely up to them!!

As to time limits, again I haven't been told of any time limit and I am speculating here, but I'd suggest that any cars exhibiting the problem within the 12 year body warranty can reasonably be expected to be repaired. That would mean that the earliest cars should be covered until the Olympics roll into town in 2012 and the later cars, such as Darrens, will considered until 2017.

Cheers,

Mike

I quite agree Mike with the statement re ownership records, SKF Audi sent me an accident management card last year for my 1995 80 Avant which was written off at THEIR bodyshop!
Oh and one for Eggbert who I changed 2006 and for my current A4! makes you wonder doesn't it!!

Mike

I would just like to give a belated well done and BIG thank you to Mike , Audi and all involved in the successful resolution of this issue. I've only just read about it.
( Don't get the time to go on the old P.C. anymore like l used to or want too ).

Come March l'll be down to PGA Sheffield, complete with cracks in both doors.

Once again many thanks.

Cheers Bob.

VAG aren't unique in this regard. My experience with BMW was not a good one although I loved the M Coupe I owned to two years, I'd never buy another BMW based on the cost vs benefit you get from having to deal BMW themselves. In complete contrast my last two years driving a Ford is the exact opposite...the Ford dealer I purchased the car from and use to get the it serviced are an object lesson in customer service...they're brilliant. Admittedly they are the smallest Ford franchise in the UK and still run by the same family who purchased the franchise from Ford in the late 1940's, but they prove it can be done.

Pity they don't have an A2 to sell me.
