Information The Baby Boomer Project

Braved the weather this evening and fitted my Audi A1 rims with Pirelli winter tyres courtesy of Richard Hall (thanks very much). Getting a dab hand at it now, only took an hour this time around despite two wheels that needed a bit more than the usual gentle persuasion to come away from the hubs.

Looks grand that Jeremy. Similar chore for me Saturday, the up! not the A2. Diamond cut 17s will be replaced with 14” steel wheels and wheel trims whilst the winter and road salt does its worst.

Had BB's annual service done at WOM just before Christmas. Marcus also changed to arb links which made a HUGE difference to the ride over speed humps. Unfortunately in my drive to work every day I have at least 4 nasty SH's on the drive, and it's been a pain since I started there, but after he changed them the ride is now bearable. Roll on the new year when I can get a full suspension overhaul.

Thanks to Marcus and Rob at WOM, over the last week or so the suspension has been totally transformed :)

New Spidan springs and Monroe dampers, plus top mounts (totally shot - photos to follow) this really did the trick and now the speed humps are nearly smooth as in the A6.

Plus, as a bonus Marcus has managed to cure the strange rattle coming from the transmission, so it now no longer shakes my hand when trying to change gear.

Great service chaps, many thanks :) @chumsofmanutd

Sounds good. Which springs and dampers did you use?

A friendly handshake sounds nice, vibration white finger not so much. Did he say what the issue was? Slack cables maybe (ooeeerr!)

Spidan Springs and Monroe dampers - Rob/Timmus recommended them and they seem to be very nice so far (only done about 50 miles on them so far).

I don't think Marcus actually knew what it was, but he was adjusting lots of things to try to cure a 3rd gear issue that I have got. That's a whole other story, but it is infuriatingly intermittent.

Thanks bud. I meant the specific codes/designator for the springs and dampers.

I was looking to see what that would cost me to do and there are a welter of options!

I see that B.B. is a TDI90 though so the same set up may not be ideal for my little old TDI75.

Ah okay, I'll get the relevant codes for you.

No, BB is a TDi75 (BHC Engine), just remapped.

Not to worry. Was just interested.

I got confused by the grille and 'my 90s experiences' - I should have read more carefully!

Ah, okay ;) It's a post-facelift car originally, hence the grill. I've never driven a 90 myself, but to be honest the DMF scares me mostly on them.

I keep seeing good reviews/recommendations of this spring and damper combo and thinking of doing likewise. Like Alex I would also be interested in spec details and cost, PM me if you you think it might be inappropriate to post cost on a public page.

Thanks - Andy

Well, the MOT came and went today - all good :), only advisory was CV Gaiter deteriorated. To be honest, I think this is a standard advisory on any A2 ...
