The Cobalt dream machine.

Just a quick note on the TerraClean - it does make a big difference from experience. I get mine done once a year at AutoTech GS in Melbourne. If you get it done there, mention my name to Roger and you might get a discount. He knows his stuff.

Do you use TerraClean only for petrols or is it good for Tdis too?

Welcome to the club, and what a fine A2. Plenty of info on here to keep you occupied, some great thread's, and fantastic people who know their stuff about everything A2. Enjoy the drive regards Spud .

Ive had my Tdi 90 terracleaned. It made a very slight difference with performance but not worth £100. It may be worth it for peace of mind though in that the inner workings of your engine may be cleaner with improved emmisions. :)

Trip to North Wales.

We got back late last night after an impromptu visit to North Wales Sunday and monday,it's a stunning area if you've never been before. This gave the opportunity to see how the mpgs have improved since the internal engine clean. Towards the end of the journey where the M6 joins the M1 back home to Rickmansworth there's a fairy long section here of 50mph average speed due to road works.Once we were through i decided in order to try and make it we needed to limit ourselves to 55mph and hope a lorry would pull us along.Lol I Have to admit to just hoping the car would make it back home with the fuel left, but was determined to see what was achievable as the dis was reading 0 miles a few miles before we had even got on the M25 with something like 15 miles to go. Have to say i drove, Karen doesn't do motorways, the last few miles like a fuel economy deamon, like his life depended on wringing blood out of a stone lol. Here's what the clocks looked like at the Chorley Wood Shell garage just a couple miles from home. Thats not bad on a tank of fuel considering 89 of those miles involved at least 3 cold choke starts and driving on A and B roads up and down steep sections from Rhuddlan to Betws-y-Coed and back. The Dis is reading an average of 52.8 mpgs.

Whilst up there we just had to visit Betws-y-Coed a place we love and have been going to for years, me personally for at least 40 since a child. This was just a flying visit so no real opportunity for nice staged shots of the car and scenery,so these will have to do...............

We had already left and wanted to stop to take a picture of the famous road side waterfall as the water was pushing through more than normal for this time of year due to the recent heavy rain.

We did consider to go further into Snowdonia Nation park, the signs were tempting but that will have to be for another time.

Yes love swallow falls Spud, pics taken 4 years ago. The whole area is great especially the Snowdonia park. Have you been to Fairy Glen which is close by? A beautiful place.:)

More than likely, we went everywhere in North Wale's over the years. I remember the car's we had, Zeffer, Morris traveler, Austin Maxi, not one of my dads best buy's, but they all got up the big hill's and did us proud. But I keep meaning to go back as I've not been for over 40 years, I keep saying we will have a hold there, but just not had the money.
Thanks for the photos, brings back some great times. Regards Spud

Understand the money side of things, it's very expensive having to pay for hotels etc, i've been lucky in that Nan has lived there for 50 years she's 96 now although that is very sadly coming to end hence my impromptu visit.:(

It's been premier inn for us these last few years and only 2 or 3 nights at a time. Get yourself back up there you know you want to! I'm like you now, i'll be needing to book a cottage for a week at mega bucks. Talking of cars i'm sure we went up there in dads Zodiak Zepher, slightly merky memory that one, remember the XJ6 Mk1 which was nice,Cortina mk3, Citreon GSA Club and before i left home the Renault Fuego he had.

Some cracking photography there Mark and very impressive MPG/total miles per tank.

With relatives in North Wales, Anglesey, Bangor, Betws-y-Coed, Caernarfon and Beaumaris were annual holiday hotspots for us, to name but a few. I haven't been for many a year, my nan's grave is on Anglesey too, I must correct this in more ways than one.

Great to see the A2 out and about on a decent trek too; another point of correction for me.

Thanks Darren, looks like your another one who needs to get back there especially as you've got 2 great kids whom would absolutely love the experience. So Darren my friend, lol get up there and do some correcting and preferably in that beautiful FSI of yours!!

I think being an 03 plate yours will have been fitted with the larger 42 litre tank; the largest there is. I seem to recall it was A2s which are pre 2003 which had the smaller 34 litre tank; though the period of build and registration may mean that there are some outliers.

In view of these fuel figures i've been looking for fuel tank capacities,am i right in thinking mines a 42 litre tank? Or is there a larger one?

That's what i thought Darren so couldn't work out how i managed to fill her up from extreme emptiness using 49.49 litres of V-Power? surely i have to believe the pump? I wrote this down to work out potentially how much was left in the tank.

I guess it is entirely plausible that the tank is slightly larger than claimed. This would naturally improve manufacturer mpg. Did you brim the tank? Equally, it is also possible that the garage, or worse still all garages, configure the pumps to over-read slightly; a money-maker that the majority would ever cotton on to.

Um - how would that improve mpg? Miles per tank yes but not miles per gallon. Also petrol pumps are frequently tested for delivery accuracy - would be a very serious offence for them to deliver less than indicated.

I would guess the 42l is only approximate and if you brimmed it there will be a couple of litres in the filler pipe.

Simon.

I meant average mpg Simon for a full tank based on 42 litres; perhaps worded erroneously in my hastily typed response. Equally, I'm not professing that there is fraud at play here; a potential, but as you are more informed of the assurance activities than I, clearly this is significantly wide of the mark.

Darren

Yes, the capacity the manufacturer states is an approximate one. It will almost certainly not be a maximum, just a basic capacity and as Simon has said the capacity of the tank would not include the amount you can get into the tube etc.

I think that you can pretty much rely on the accuracy of the fuel pump at the filling station.

They are frequently checked by an independent body to ensure accuracy.
A slight variance in accuracy would be a court case for the station because of the millions of litres they sell.
