The Definitive Suspension Parts List

The rear top mount does not have a bearing as it does not need to turn. I believe it is filled with really hard rubber to cushion the shock absorber.

I would still replace them as they are only about £15 each and you need to remove them anyway (you will need a 16mm spanner/socket)

Hi, I just ordered the OESpectrum as these are the next generation from Monroe for the Reflex shox. Seem to be goo per the advertising blurb and manage the feel of buzzy roads better... so they say. I also ordered the Spidan springs (49527 front, 49546 rear) after a lot of searching. I have ordered top mounts and bearings from online auto shops and will get the bump stops (sport) and dust covers from local Audi to me.

Going for the SE version of the upper rubber spring seat for the extra height just in case the back end sits low with the lower sport spring seat version (-10mm from SE version). Mine is a TDI 90bph.

If anyone can help... does anyone know if the rear top strut mount has a bearing also? I am not clear on this and the online order I did I note states 'Without anti-friction bearing'.... suggests there may be a bearing to be ordered for it, but cant find anything on searches and it is not listed in the definitive parts lit from Timmus.
Cheers, Douglas.

Hi Doug, there is an aluminium cast mount that fits to the top of the strut that then bolts onto the body via two bolts ... 1J0513353D (part number ten on the drawing)

Thanks Tomscar, Yes, I ordered a set of new ones for the rear and it was the comment on the website 'Without anti-friction bearing' but it must just be their standard way of online description for front top mount options creeping into the rear mount descriptions.
I realise that I may have ordered the wrong front spidans 49527's for the Monroe shocks I also ordered, I see Timmus in another thread (https://www.a2oc.net/community/index.php?threads/spring-differences-oss-vs-non-oss.22412/) mentioned that 'Monroe or Bilstien dampers at the front: use Spidan 49515', I'll take that as good advice...… so much research to be done upfront for A2 suspension, keeps the mind active though. So I will have to cancel the order I made today and get the correct ones. I want a nice level looking A2. Thanks for all the help once again all.

I ended up choosing, for the front, Monroe OESpectrums and Sachs bearings and mounts. I kept the original springs. The results are good; no more 'crashiness' on bumps and a well-damped firm ride. Cartech-one was the cheapest for these parts.

Just ordered a pair of Spidan 49515 and a pair of 49546 so I can go through the suspension on our 168k A2 TDI in the next few weeks.

Ordered them from German site carondo.com which went fine. Hopefully they'll be here shortly. 123Euros including carriage.

How are people finding the recommended Monroe dampers? Lots of chat in here about the parts, but I'm interested in the outcome from fitting them, too! I discounted the Bilstein option after speaking to a mate on here who's fitted them and said they were too firm.

I have Munroe Reflex on the rear without any issues but used genuine Audi on the front along with the Audi top bearing, the originals lasted thirteen years, so no complaints from me.

Worn strut top mounts can cause the spring to jump which makes a fairly recognisable noise (slow speed/stationery turns). I love to save money though the effort involved in changing the mounts means you may as well do them unless you know their history.

These have been on 1 week now and I am happy with them.
My car failed on 1 damper and the other side advisory.
So they were bad.
I have had a lowered car before and they don’t ride like that.
They are comfortable.
I got charged £150 to fit them.
