The definitive tyre / wheel size thread

Just bought this on eBay to be used as a spare. With the right tyres will it be suitable for use as a spare wheel for both my 15” winters and 17” summers?

Yes as long as you get a tyre that matches the recommended size in the list on this thread (or the size of tyre on your current 15” wheels it will suit both. That is because it will have the same rolling radius as both the 15 and 17 inch wheels.

Great price.

Thanks Steve yes a great price and free delivery too my lucky day ?.

Read through all the posts here . Could someone tell me which tyres are ok on7.5Jx17 ET33 alloys?

Thanks.

Thank you Steve for your prompt response. No major issues with this size rubbing, I have votex kit if that makes a difference.

The Votex kit does reduce the clearance slightly, but the 215 40 17 tyres shouldn't threaten any rubbing.

I cannot be 100% sure of the ET on the S3s but I don't think it would be much different to 33.

So due to reduction in ride height by 3cm all round I'm getting slight rubbing at full lock with 205/40r17.

If I move to 15s what would be a good size to ensure i dont make this worse at the very least?

If I go for identical size for cross climates on 15s (195/55) the price diff to 185/60s is 15 a corner - doesnt make sense.

if you have rubbing with 205/40R17s you're running the wrong ET.

175/60 is original, 185/55 or 60 are a decent compromise with reduced cost.

ET is fine they are stock 17s from a sport with 205/40s. Its because the car is lowered :)

I think I might go 185/55 to reduce rolling circum and overall size

Whats the opinion on ride quality - will it be noticable going to 185/55 r15 from 205/40?

I went from 205/40/17 standard sport to 195/155/15 and the difference is quite noticeable, much more comfort far less harsh, which was the intention - more rubber between the base of your spine and the road. Some would say at the loss of 'driveability' which I accept, after all 7" wide wheels with less rubber will be more 'planted' on the road, but only if that is your interest.

Will these fit my A2
They're A1 wheels 15 inch, offset is ET34, tyre size is 205x15/15

A1 whelks nearly all have the 5 x 100 stud pattern and correct centre hole so the wheels fit. But there is s typo in the tyre size you mention. Did you mean 215 50 15?

Steve B

That is ok

That tyres size will fit and should not rub anywhere. So they should fit straight on.

Also help on ride-quality to reduce width from eg 215 to 195. I did that on 16-inch rims from A1. Compensated with increasing height from 40 to 50.

Much more easy on the steering wheel (powersteering), and infact 90 percent of the knocking from front-end disappeared.
