The definitive tyre / wheel size thread

Good evening
Am I right in thinking 71/2J X 17 ET32 in 5 X 100 will fit? With 205/45 tyres?
If the wheels are from a TT Will the standard A2 bolts fit or will different ones be needed?
Many thanks

I think that size should be ok and the A2 bolts will fit as normal

Yes in a word. They are what I am running on my SE.

Good morning and a happy new year
I would like to know if 7x17 et45 will fit my a2 they are from skoda fabia....

Pcd?

If they are 100 then potentially yes but they may sit in a fraction. You would be looking at stock size 205 40s

45 is starting to push it for ET, it may look silly and you're narrowing the track. The Fabia should be 5x100 and the centre bore size, but from a looks perspective it may not be what you're after. It may also affect handling negatively. Might not, but there's a reason spacers exist and it's not purely for looks.

They will physically fit. Understand, please, that there are compromises here; a higher ET means that the tyre sits further inside the wheelarch. This gives a strange look because the tyre starts to "hide" and most people absolutely don't want that. You are also changing the track width by 20mm from an ET35 wheel, which may affect your handling in a negative way.

Only you know what compromises you are prepared to deal with. Personally, I'd be looking for ET32 on a 7.5J to have it sitting nicely towards the outside of the arch. I think my current 7Js are 35 and they sit reasonably far in. I'd not want another 10mm in, I think it would look silly. You may also run into trouble depending on the size of tyres you add, and though 215s work fine with ET35, they could rub with full load or at full lock.

Part number of the wheels would be a good idea if they're original, then you can confirm the PCD and bore size. I'd also double-check the tyre sizes involved. As an aside, they'll also weigh a ton. I would not go there, it's too many compromises for me, unless they're incredibly cheap and even then I'm not sure I would.

Hi can anyone help me please?
I need new tyres and currently have 185/50/R16 81v. I need new ones and was struggling to find places that had these. If I put my number plate in, it came up with others including 195/45. I looked on here and it seemed as though that was OE for the A2 so I ordered them.
I just went to have them fitted and they said 195/45 is not OE for A2's and you can only have one size of tyre and for mine it is 185/50/R16

I'm now confused as if cars can only have one size of tyre per when size, what is this list for please?

I must admit that I'm losing my love for Mabel a little at the moment. I've spent £800 on a stainless still exhaust that has failed to sort the cat fault code and now I've spent £350 on new tyres that I can't have fitted so she will now fail her MOT tomorrow. The temptation to get a personal lease on a Fiat 500 for £160 a month is quite strong. At the moment

Sorry for being so grumpy

I'm surprised the tyre fitters 'care' about the tyre size, I don't believe they have any right to police which tyres you choose. As you seem to be in need of new tyres I'd be inclined to ask them to fit the 195/45's though I'd be looking for a new tyre fitter. Curious, which tyres were you buying(brand and model).
I'm generally prone to buying tyres and having them fitted by a garage I trust(usually cheaper). Good luck.
P.S. No need to apologise for being grumpy, I'd be livid if that happened to me.

Thank you. He was adamant that they couldn't fit any tyres that weren't the same size as the ones on it. He said a wheel can only have one size of tyre fitted on it. That's what confused me about the list st the dart of this thread - why there were so many different ones, if only one will fit. I'm not 100% sure he knew what he was talking about.
I bought the tyres through black circles (won't make that mistake again), so at the moment, ATS have tyres that I have paid for but can't get fitted.
I don't understand why everything has to be so complicated

As you know, he's talking nonsense. Maybe a call to Blackcircles would help. Again, I'd be livid, congratulations on not losing it. :) FYI Blackcircles CS is 01721 721800 , I'm certain a quick call will resolve the issue.

Ah Thank you. I've rung them and they are going to ring me back soon hopefully

The new tyres you have will fit on your car with no problems,if i was you i would take the car to another tyre fitter, maybe they wouldn't fit these tyres as you purchased them elsewhere

Teresa has paid for fitting already (Blackcircles). Can't imagine they (Blackcircles) will be too happy about the situation.
