The Green Goddess

So it's been a while but there's something special happening soon thanks to one of our parts Gurus and a very very timely intervention indeed!! Thanks buddy! :)

You see the car was already booked in for paint on the 22 oct, and about a week later the phone went ping from the "Valleys" so all will be revealed end of Oct when the car comes back from some quite extensive paintwork.

Lovely car and almost my perfect colour/spec.
If you’re still thinking you might sell at some point, I’d be very interested.

Thanks for the compliment, it is a very nice car and we love it. Since i bought the car and started spending money on it, driving it etc, i've grown too attached to it now to let it go i'm afraid, it now has headlamp wash and a couple other things in the pipeline when Tom can fit me in.

Wishing you the best of luck in finding the right car.?

Shame but I completely understand. Would it be possible to come over and see it at some point so that I have a comparison point for others I see?

Your welcome to have a look but it doesn't look any different to the photos really and it would need to be detailed and polished up as we use it daily to look at it's best.

I was reading your thread on the dream machine, also very impressive.
How would you compare the two cars?

Thanks for the comment. I'm finding the fsi 15% better on fuel on local runs from cold and 10% better on long runs. Despite the 1.4 running sweetly it did use a lot of oil and had slight piston slap when cold and the reason why i bought a new engine for it still to be put together and replaced.

My experience of these 2 engines will be a little different to most as i use Ester based oils. These oils ie; Fuch Titan pro s and Millers Ester based oil release more horse power and keep an engine better protected and makes an engine feel as smooth as it can be. Mr Birchal (a stalwart of this forum) was very impressed with our 1.4 saying he thought it was one of the sweetest he had heard. That would be the oil i use in there possibly.

The 1.4 is a great engine it's a very smooth and quiet unit if a little slow on the take of from rest. The fsi, if running right, is also a very smooth unit, is easier to pull of from rest, ie; easier to control the clutch no stalling going on, and will rev cleanly and surprisingly smoothly throughout the rev range up to max permitted revs.It feels and is a quicker car without a doubt unless on extreme part throttle when they don't feel that different. The 1.6 has much more torque and responds better to the right pedal but that doesn't mean the 1.4 is a slug if it's in fine fettle.

For handling our 1.4 sport with Goodyear Assymetric 2 tyres on 17" sport alloys is dream to drive on windy B roads if you keep the revs up around 3,500 rpms, it handles so well being light up front the 1.4 block and head being all Aluminium and only weighs 985kg.

The fsi on its softer se suspension and 16" wheels is more comfortable and doesn't feel as good a handler as the 1.4 on extremis, but then both front shocks are misting and past their best atm. Even so the 1.6 lump is heavier being a cast iron block and won't handle quiet as well as the 1.4. I personally would be interested to know what a sport fsi feels like to drive.Anyway hope that helps.

Well it's been a frustrating time for me since the last update late last year what with useless car body people with the usual excuses and down right lies and deceit!

Long and short of it, i bought a brand new headlamp wash front bumper in the end as the painter was moaning about the other decent one i had albeit it needed some small repairs but nothing major. Don't forget i live in near London! Half the car was supposed to be painted and all they did was less than half of what was agreed, not very well either and expected me to not notice the other 60% they hadn't painted. Yes, can you believe it?! I won't be going anywhere near the place again!

So what with the upcoming Scotland trip end of May i've not pursued any more paint jobs for now.

The good news is i now have a complete suspension refurb (used original springs) including both sets of top mounts on the car and all new nuts and bolts. The Bilstien B4s are superb imo, really pleased with the now excellent ride which is surprisingly supple over the ridges and manhole covers yet firm. No need to avoid them any more. Incidentally the original 2002 factory Audi shocks that came of the car with the Audi logos on them were clearly marked as made by Monroe which came as a surprise to me, as i was was expecting Boge or Sachs.

Anyway last but not least, i was standing around this afternoon like an expecting father hoping the car would pass it's mot. My nerves have calmed down thankfully as she passed with flying colours :D except for a mention of a stone chip in the front screen. That's it for now.

A couple from the Lakes, she's turned over a 100k now, but with lots of the important parts replaced with new.
