Well poor Audi will just loose all its loyal costumers whilst Mercedes will just keep making money on this... this is the new A-class:

Imagine how nice a 2 door A2 would have been - as per the original concept versions...

But look at the engines! even a 2,0 litre diesel!!!

Petrol engine range:

A150 - 1 498cc, 70 kW, 140 Nm
A170 - 1 699cc, 85 kW, 155 Nm
A200 - 2 034cc, 100 kW, 185 Nm
A200 Turbo - 2034cc, 142 kW, 280 Nm
Diesel engine range:

A160 CDI - 1991cc, 60 kW, 180 Nm
A180 CDI - 1991cc, 80 kW, 250 Nm
A200 CDI - 1991cc 103 kW, 300 Nm

Well it’s nice to see that M-B have learnt from Audi and sorted that awful interior out. Well visually at least, I wait and see how it feels when it arrives in the dealerships. The exterior also is a vast improvement upon the Mk 1 especially in 3-door version I think. I doubt somehow that the rear legroom has been made much better and certainly still not as good as the A2. How much they will the various models cost?
 
the A200 Turbo and the A200 CDI are gonna be pocket rockets! I always thought the A2 should have come with a 4 cylinder turbo diesel version.

The SEAT Ibiza now has a 160bhp version of the venerable 1,9 Tdi under the bonnet! Imagine that in an A2!! Interesting to note that all the diesels have the exact same engine and are just chipped differently! They are all 2,0 litres! Even the A160 CDi.

The current A-class LWB had absolute acres of rear legroom... more than a standard length S-class and this new A-class is the same size as the current LWB, so I think rear legroom won't be a problem. It will still feature a full length sandwich floor though, so your knees will be around your cheeks yet again...

But before long the entire world will be full of these, EasyRental car won't help and they will be as common as the 3-series BMW... so for my money (and looking at this type of car) I'd prefer the SEAT Altea that will (hopefully) be scarcer than this A-class.

A2 TDI Sport Gone but Not Forgotten.

A3 TDI DSG, What do i do with my left arm and leg now ?

This is the one and only A-class version Stuart... and it is the LWB. There will be no SWB one as the current one was rediculously short to be honest to prove a point. The only outstanding version is the new forthcoming B-class. It will be based on the A-class, but it will be a longer version with 7 seats (ala the current rage set by the Zafira) and will look completely different.

Johann, the engines are indeed the same - but the A200 CDI has a variable turbo geometry,
so putting an A200 chip into an A160 will not give it the same power.

The new diesel engines are 4 cylinder version of the 1.5 three cylinder version to be fitted in the new smart forfour. The same three cylinder engine can produce 63 or 95 bhp.
 
There is a large piece on www.news.kak.net about the new A-class. Sounds nice.

Steve - 2002 1.4SE petrol, Silver, black/black interior, Then an identical replacement 2003 A2. Now a Toyota Corolla 1.6 T-Spirit
