I am doing a road trip up to Scotland in the middle of july. I am due a service soon. About 1200 miles but the service indicator dose not want to go down. The other day it went upto 1300 lol.

I guess I proberly will do 350 -400 miles before I go on the road trip and I am thinking of just biting the bullet and servicing the car before regardless of how many miles are left on the indicator. Or do I leave it and do it on my return? When the service is due dose the indicator stay on like the fuel warning or does it go away?

I am the sort of person who would just do it for pease of mind anyway.

Cheers

David

Hello,

When I bought mine it said 6000 miles then the next I saw was 4800. Alarmed I started checking more frequently but it stayed on 4800 for 680 miles and then yesterday it dropped to 4300...

Makes sense to get it all checked over before you go on your tour. Peace of mind always good in my book! Is this a local dealer job or Skipton Autos on the way up the M6? ;)

Hi David. From memory when I had a Tdi everytime I topped up the oil the service indicator extended its reading. Mine used a fair bit of oil after 'blowing up' at 300mls. I had an independent oil and filter change at 500mls after rebuild then just kept on topping up. It had done 32,000mls when I traded it in and was showing service due in 800mls.having not yet had one ??? When I bought my current petrol, Audi said it hadn't had its first service until 30,000m. No real surprise as it uses a fair bit of oil so like my Tdi it prob never said it needed one. Dont like variable servicing and am now doing one every 10,000 or so. Personally I would have it done for peace of mind. Regards Colin. Enjoy your Hol.

Thank you for the feed back. I will deff do it before the trip. It's worth it for the peace of mind :)

Cheers

David

Mine is currently showing 27000 miles, and I've driven it a couple of thousand miles since I took it to Mike to be serviced :)

I need to put it in for work in 10k miles anyway (since that's when the cambelt is due), so I'll get the longlife oil&filters done at the same time.

I just used Vag com to change the service indicator to fixed yearly intervals, although i dont pay attention to it anyway as I service mine every year regardless, to ensure its in top condition

Well it's now booked in with our own worlds No1 A2 expert, so will soon be happy with some nice clean oil.

Mike has already done my oil and filter between my last service so it's not been left to long. If I had followed the variable service indicator it would not have had any clean oil since Sep 09

Cheers

David
