Things you hate about your A2

I don't hate the A2 one bit, I now have a great little car that will keep me busy for quite some time, it's just so surprising how much I am loving the A2 for a car that cost peanuts to buy and gives you so much joy in so many ways.
If I had to pick one thing that frustrates me about the car is no cruise control, for a premium brand that made a car ahead of it's time they went backwards on that one thing for me.

Cruise control is an easy retrofit for young Tom (@timmus), factory components too.

No cruise control
Cruise control was available from factory, but surprisingly few original owners chose to have the option fitted. I’m slowly trying to correct this, having installed cruise control to factory standard hundreds and hundreds of times, including another this afternoon. If you’re a hardened cruise control addict like me, you needn’t let your A2’s lack of cruise get in the way of your love for it. 🙂

Cheers,

Tom

Absolutely. The worst is in a tight parking space: Squeeze into the car, activate button with backside on the way down, get out to re-close fuel flap, squeeze in, activate with backside again, repeat...

I'd also like to moan about the lack of 6th gear in the TDIs and FSIs - baffling in a car supposed to maximise economy. The FSI is actually less economical at 70 mph than the 1.4 as the gearing means it's no longer in lean burn mode.

Lastly (for now) the oil filter location on the FSI in particular (it's similar to the 1.4 but extra pipework makes it more awkward).

In all the years I’ve had an a2 I’ve never once done this with my backside.

I can honestly say there isn’t anything to add to this thread to me, other than on some days the looks from the front do strike me as odd - but then I shake myself out of it and remind myself how practical a car it is: As long as you don’t need to regularly carry more than four people the A2 really is the answer to most motoring requirements.

I'm in the same boat as you, the chap I bought it off warned me that this was something that happened all the time. I have not done it once since I bought the car.

I’d wager that it’s mostly dependent on how tall you are. Those whose driver seat is all the way back will probably accidentally press the fuel cap release button with greater regularity.
I also think it’s more easily done with standard seats, as the wider bolsters of Sport seats shield the button somewhat.

Cheers,

Tom

Tom you may well be right, but as you may remember I am 6'2" with standard seats.

I'm 6'7" tall and I'm no racing snake and I haven't hit that button thus far, I don't have sport seats but they are leather and my seat is all the way back and as low as it goes. That said I fit in the A2 with plenty of head room ECT.
