Third Gear Loss Of Power - TDI SE

Hi

I think the flywheel is on its way out...when i pop down a gear usual third it makes a weird noise...used to only happen when i change down a gear when driving down a hill...but now in third quite a few times i lose power for like a split second loser some revs too...oh and its a TDI

could this loss of power be due to the flywheel? the gear changes are becoming alot stiffer
i have done 102k now

Any help guys.

Spoke to VAG parts they said it is very unusal for an A2 TDI Flywheel to need replacing....

got it booked in for long life service at IVS. Independent VAG specialists

I can't see it being a flywheel, as that would affect all ratios. Having said that, I had my clutch and flywheel replaced under warranty, as the flywheel was faulty, but that was a dual-mass damped flywheel, which are only fitted to the 90PS A2, not the 75PS.

I think your issue may be gearbox related - these have been known to fail.

Cheers,

Mike

well it makes the noise when i use engine braking going into a lower gear
and my friend had a problem with his flywheel in a mondeo DCi and its making the same kind of sound

loss of power in third could it be the clutch slipping?

its only happened a few times.

if it was the gearbox what kind of price would i be looking at?

Hi Adrenaline
Although the 75PS TDi does not have the more complex dual mass flywheel, the clutch friction plate will have a series of springs around the centre spider to dampen shock loads. These springs can break and rattle around and possibly give a simialr noise to a failing dual mass flywheel.
Clutch slip would show up more under acceleration where engine revs would rise without an increase in vehicle speed - accompanied by the smell of burning friction material

Cheers Spike

in that case it is not clutch slip..the gears have become alot stiffer and sometimes it changes into 3rd very quick with very little feel...if you understand what i mean.

yea its making the same sound as my friends dual mass flywheel was

also it is due a service maybe it could be the fuel filter

my last car was a Honda Accord
i don't think in 5 years of ownership there was any electric fault, i did change the clutch which is normal wear
