i'll have some clearer pics tomorrow, these were taken with a mobile so please excuse.

OMG:eek:

Was this your pride and joy - I hope not, but then it was someones.

Here's hoping that there's a smooth claim and a swift return to A2 ownership.

Cheers,

Mike

Agree with Mike's comments, pictures like this make me feel a bit sick, I can only imagine what I would feel if it were my A2.

For mine and others education, was this a petrol or diesel model? And if anything, what is the best thing to do if you think there is a fire under the bonnet? Obviously the bonnet region is not as accessible on an A2 as a "normal" (read boring!) car, so where and how would you squirt any extinguisher foam / powder? I have an extinguisher in my car, but have not really thought about how to use it!

kr1s77, hope you find a new A2 as soon as possible.

Dave

it was the misses car, she went shopping, got back in the car turned the key and she said flames just came out from the bonnet and she just ran out. a woman came out from one of the shops to try and put it out with a hose, but couldn't. the fire brigade came and drowned it.

it was a petrol 1.6 FSI.

Sad story but glad to hear your misses got out OK. Luckily she wasn't charging down the motorway.

When I told a friend of mine, a chemist, that I had bought an aluminium car he pulled a face and said he wouldn't have one as in a fire they just melt! That seems to have happened with your bonnet and wing.

I should have asked my friend if he flies off somewhere for his hols in an aluminium aircraft!

Now that's not something you see everyday - good job too!

Glad no one was hurt, hope it doesn't put you off A2 ownership

I echo everyone's comments and would like to add that I too am pleased to read that your good lady wife escaped without injury or worse.

Interesting to discover what the source was?! A one off incident or a manufacturing defect that might warrant a recall?! Did the fire brigade offer any insight?

Best wishes,

Darren

Melting Aluminium?

The front wings, like the bumper, are plastic!

Blimey! That looks pretty severe!

My dad had an engine fire on a Triumph Toledo once, but it caused nowhere near that amount of damage. It was only the battery/electrical system that went awry - nowhere near as bad as the photos.

Like others, I wonder what caused it? I presume it was something to do with the eletrical system, since it started soon after ignition. Could it be the coils?

What a mess! That's scary stuff. Glad nobody was hurt and hope you get the claim sorted without too much hassle.

Is there anything salvagable from it...?
