Throttle body cleanout?

Hey guys, the other day i was driving and my cars engine all of a sudden lost a substantial amount of power and felt like it was just on the verge of stalling but had just enough power not to and the engine light started flashing.

On my previous visit to audi to get my manifold sensor done they said that i should do a throttle body cleanout. At the time I felt the car was very fine and that they just wanted to add something else for me to do so i said no.

I called them up about the recent problem and they cheecked their system and said that it COULD be that the throttle body is clogged up. They offered to do a diagnostic for 100 quid but im thinking they might just come back and tell me the same thing about the throttle body which costs £70 to clear.

doen a search on the forum but cant find much.....

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or had the throttle body cleaned.

info would be very much appreciated.

Hi kauto star
Club members have reported problems with the MAF sensor (mass airflow) - see link attached. In one of the mails, I referred to an article in Diesel Car, describing how to check the 'hot wire' within the MAF body. I'm not now sure if A2's have the 'hot wire' style MAF sensor so this checking method may not apply. The power loss etc would still apply however if the MAF sensor is faulty.
I don't recall seeing anything on the A2oc site regarding throttle body cleaning but think it is unlikely to be the cause of a substantial power loss.

hi spike, thanks for the info and link.
just wanted to ask where the "air intake ducting" is located so i can check to see if mines glowing.

My car is an X reg, petrol

cheers

mine had a similar problem,I ended up having a new throttle body and gasket.
This was after they had been cleaned too.
Cost me over £500 for the new throtle body.
Run's like a dream now though! lol.:D

Hi kauto star
Just checked the parts book and the 1.4 petrol does not have a MAF sensor while the diesel and 1.6fsi do. Sorry for the confusion.

Cheers Spike

no worries spike.
cheers for the info chris-b, went to warranty direct to ask them if any of the mentioned is covered and they said that the cleanout wouldnt be but if i needed a new throttle body and gasket they would pay for it.
cant recommend them enough! so far have had about £1500+ work done on the car and they havent complained once cover only cost about £200 as well.
some people say their crap but they been ok with me.....

ill see what audi say tomorrow when i go in for my cleanout

Just wait until you need a steering angle sensor to be replaced then you may find that they are not going to play ball. I dont think much of warranty direct thats why I cancelled my policy and went with Mondial.
