In the last breaker I sent off, I found a set of platinum factory mats hidden below a set of terrible rubber ones.

As you can see they were extremely dirty

But with my faithful cleaning product Elbow Grease they have come up like new

Over the next 4-6 weeks I should get a votex kit fitted, coilovers, 18 inch alloys and a few subtle modifications.

See you decided to go with the 'overwhelming consensus' in the end then and keep it standard? ???

I pre-wet, spray on truckwash at 1-10, agitate, pressure wash and hang up in the bathroom overnight. The muck that comes off is astonishing, even on what appear to be barely grubby mats, let alone filthy ones. Works for almost anything you can get out of a car, and in the case of door trims, still attached to a car. Very satisfying.

There are limits. I did once catch an old boss, fag in corner of mouth, literally steam cleaning the inside of a putrid Citroen BX once. Seats, headlining, doors, glovebox: the whole nine yards. It was a very hot summer and it took from late spring to September before the mist in the cluster finally went. I thought that was bad until one day I went round there and he was actually spraying the carpets with satin black paint. In fairness, they did look really good (and it masked the meat rendering plant scent a bit) but had all the luxurious feel of a Brillo pad ? What was astonishing was we were a main dealer selling new cars up to £30K, and here was the Dealer Principle messing with (and later retailing) a 225k £1500 BX.

Like us, I think he just liked sneaking off and bringing something back to life, even if it was in his own special way.

Really looking forward to seeing the kit go on this. Have you got the wheels Steve?

I do like the sound of a lot of things you do Rusty but I must admit the jet washing of the interior isn't one of them.

When I first read you said you did that it made me gasp ?.

I could stand to be corrected but I would have thought it could cause all sorts of electrical gremlins, no?

Fear not, other than the odd splash, there's nothing getting on anything electrical. Unlike my old boss, I wouldn't venture inside the car, but doorcards are fair game. Most other things can be removed. Valeters often jet wash seats although I wouldn't. Also, you wouldn't want to do this on a cold wet winter's day and then leave the car outside. Summer's day though? Do it before lunch and everything will be done dry before teatime.

I've been doing this sort of thing for last three decades: no problems yet ?

For an unexperienced, could you give an example of truckwash?

Just search for 'Traffic Film Remover' or TFR: most motor factors sell it. Just be very careful to dilute it as instructed. Also, don't use on paintwork in the direct sun, it'll burn it. If in doubt, over-dilute and add TFR bit by bit until it cleans as you need. Better that way round than starting too strong.

@A2Steve apologies for the thread hijack

With the assistance of my 6 and 3 year olds, gave the interior a deep clean today and it’s come up lovely.

Then fitted a sport spec steering wheel. Much prefer the feel of the sport wheel.

And then filled up the missing bits in the toolkit and added a first aid kit. It’s the small details that make a difference.

Looks stunning. What a turnaround!

Plenty more to come yet. I’ve got a set of HID headlight bulbs to fit next and a set of LED interior lights.

Then it’s a waiting game for my votex kit to arrive, followed by a set of alloys I have on hold, then coilovers.

Wow! What a difference! When I finally find my car I think I’ll hire you and your team!

Having watched @A2Steve from afar I think it is not beyond the realms of possibility that this car could at some stage come to market!! Though I may be wrong of course? ?

If the car turns out as I want it to, then it’s going to be on par the project cars I’ve done in the past. As a reminder, here’s my top 3

Cars I work on come and go, but each of the cars above were sold when we had a baby on the way and needed to free up a few thousand pounds to cover maternity leave.

Well this time there are definately no more wee baby’s on the way so the car may well stay for some time.
