Timing Belt Change

Hi all, I just got my pine green 1.4 petrol A2 on Saturday. It's a 2001 model with 66,000 miles on the clock. I've had a look at the service history, and can't see any mention of a timing belt change. The manual seems to suggest that it should be done at 80,000 miles, but I've seen people on here saying to get it done at 60,000. My question is: if it hasn't been done, should I get it done soon? The car is in immaculate condition and doesn't feel like it has been driven very hard in the past. Thanks guys,
John

btw Why is this such a rare car here in Ireland? It's gorgeous, and really good value second hand!!!

Congragulations on the Purchase of the
Pine Green Machine.....

I Think most manufacturers recomend that you change the Cambelt
at 60,000miles i purchased my car on 63'000 miles and the belt
had just been changed i cant see it would be any different for a Petrol 1.4...

On the purchase of a rare car in Ireland, the colour alone is also a rare thing
you may find your the only one in Ireland LOL !!!!!

hi bogmanfan,80000 for petrol,60000 for diesel..

Hi bogmanfan
Welcome to the A2oc
I read recently that VW(and Audi) had reduced the cambelt service intervals on 1.4 petrol engines so it would be worth checking with your Audi dealer.
Magazines often get these things wrong so if any club member is talking to their Audi service dept, perhaps they could check this out for both petrol and diesel engines and let us know.

For info, the diesel cambelt is more highly stressed by driving the injection system which works at significantly higher pressures than on petrol cars - hence the shorter service life.

Cheers Spike
