Greetings to all A2 owners,

For over a decade, I have been upgrading and repairing A2s. Having dedicated myself to just one model of car, I have intimate, specialised knowledge of the vehicle we all love. Countless reviews and recommendations are scattered across the pages of this forum. My hope is that, with incremental revisions, this thread will give A2 owners a clear and condensed overview of the services that I provide and how I deliver them.

Timmus was originally a childhood nickname, born from my sister's early attempts to say 'Thomas'. Upon joining A2OC, back when A2s were first starting to appear on the second-hand market, my nickname seemed a suitable choice of username. Even when I was building models as a young boy, I showed an enthusiastic desire to improve and innovate. Studying physics and engineering at university honed my understanding and developed in me the skills necessary to innovate and improve in line with established principles and with a due respect for correctness, caution and consideration.
I soon found that my understanding of the A2's electrics was an asset to the club. My lifelong and apparently innate fixation on detail and desire for the very highest standards of neatness, efficiency and safety has meant that I have acquired a reputation in the club for factory-standard perfectionism. I am known not just for my meticulousness and painstaking care for the work that I do, but also for my honesty, flexibility, cooperativeness and integrity with the people for whom I work.

Below is an overview of the range of services that I offer for the Audi A2.

Retrofitting of Optional Extras

Electrical Diagnostics, Services and Repairs

I have a complete understanding of the A2's electrical systems and have great experience of diagnosing and repairing most electrical problems.
TDI Engine Upgrades
Accessing My Services

I'm based near Lancaster, just off M6 J34. My workshop is where a majority of my work is performed, and everyone is welcome to visit me by appointment. I'm sometimes to be found at 'satellite stations' in the Midlands and the South East. I also perform work on A2s at A2OC social events, where suitable/appropriate.
Very occasionally, I also do 'retrofitting tours', where I travel between multiple A2 owners to deliver upgrade and repair requests at owners' homes or places of work. Please note that I do not drive for individual jobs; it’s much easier to bring your A2 to my workshop than to bring my workshop to your A2.
For Central European owners, I'm happy to travel/fly. I also have a base in The Hague, which serves A2 owners in the BeNeLux region.

Please be aware that I am my own secretary and that I can struggle to reply to private messages promptly when work is busy. Rest assured, no message goes unanswered and I will get back to you. Thanks for your patience.

My list of services is always increasing, and I will continue to update and expand this thread as needed.

Warm regards to all,

Tom

Today has seen another A2 (@2work’s Project OEM) get some tasty upgrades...

The Colour DIS cluster was purchased by @2work a long time ago, but today was our first mutually convenient day to do the work on the car. More Colour DIS systems should be available in the coming weeks.

I’m aware that I owe a number of members a reply to their enquiries. Being my own secretary, I cannot be replying to PMs whilst also doing the work on the cars, so I thank you for your patience.

Cheers,

Tom

Evening Tom,

Always a pleasure to be in your company, even at 2m apart.

Thank you so much for today. Some 4 hours (3 hours return journey) after the astonishing Colour DIS was plugged I arrived home. Maybe next time we meet up the weather won’t be as dreadful.

What can I say about this transformation apart from utterly outstanding. I really do like all the functionality, available information and the sheer elegance the screen has added to my A2. It sits beautifully behind the freshly painted MFSW. These retrofits/installations kept the grin on my face the whole journey home. I was able to refrain from playing with the menus though. That’ll be a tomorrow task.

For anyone else reading this who is yet to have Colour DIS fitted I suggest you get your order in now. I promise that you will not be disappointed.

Thank you so much again.

Kind regards,

Other Tom

Hi Tom I’m very interested in colour DIS. Is there a waiting list I can request to join for this?

Hi Mate, you're a man in demand

Well, you go past me on way to Dover, M20, not sure if possible, but, would like a few bits done, understand if not poss, but, cruise control, dis, multi function s/w, later style audio with bt, beep on lock....

Maybe I should se d this to Santa Claus aswell ?
Hi Goldsqeegee,

Santa Claus usually outsources his A2 upgrade requests to me, so such solicitations usually end up on my desk anyway. :)

Once lockdown restrictions are well and truly eased, I hope to base myself in the South East for a few weeks. I may or may not pop across to Central Europe, depending on restrictions on international travel, but I'll certainly be a lot closer Chatham than when I'm at home near Lancaster. Everything on your list is eminently doable, and I have the stocks to meet all your requests. :)

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom. The DIS on my 2005 TDI is missing pixels once it gets warm. I would like it repaired or also upgraded dependent on your time and cost etc. My problem though is I live in Felixstowe area in Suffolk which is along way from you. If you are ever down this way I would appreciate you doing the repair.
Regards
James.
Hi James,

The screen can either be replaced like-with-like, or you can choose to upgrade to Colour DIS. Although Colour DIS is more expensive, many people choose to do the upgrade when their standard red-and-black screen starts failing.

A few times a year (pandemic lockdowns notwithstanding!), I base myself in Leighton Buzzard, which is a lot closer to Felixstowe than my house near Lancaster. I also work from a friend's house in Cambridge from time to time.

Cheers,

Tom

A good number of Colour DIS clusters will hopefully be created during the next month or so. I'm hoping to have them ready for the end of lockdown. Your name can be placed on one should you wish.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom and thank you so much for the reply as I realise you are a very busy guy! I would be interested in a rough quotation for both a replacement like for like and colour DIS too by way of a private message if that's convenient to you? I quite often go to the Cambridge area as my girlfriend lives in Royston so perhaps that would be a good place to arrange fitment later in the year if possible?

Hi Tom.

Could I also please have the same quoted price indication for my TDI75?

I’ve got pixel fade (and like new toys too obviously).

Nigel is back on the road ☺️ new and improved and sounding great thanks to @timmus, can't thank him or recommend him enough. Sorted out my stereo and Bose and Cccu, but also a long list of other little things that make such an improvement and lots of much needed advice. Will be back for all the other things on my wishlist when funds allow and hopefully will get to meet him myself next time (Dr's and the pandemic made things awkward).

A massive thank you to Tom @timmus for the fantastic upgrades work he performed on my FSI recently.
My interior had to be 80% removed from the dash back which filled abiscuit tin full of various screws, bolts, plastic caps and clips!
It was refreshing to see someone fully understand a car and work on it confidently, correcting other people’s previous poor repairs when he found them.
I also now have a greater appreciation for the A2’s after seeing it naked. I underestimated how well made these little cars are. The quality of the plastics, the electrics but most importantly the solidness of the car itself.
Another huge thank you to @A2Steve for supplying some of the rarest A2 parts to make some of this work possible.
I already have plans for more jobs to be done in the future and with that in mind I would highly recommend this gent to any of you considering any of the services offered. You will not be disappointed.

Many thanks again Tom for your fantastic service, hospitality and conversation.

Well done Tom - and nice to see you’ve decided to keep the car Phil, I was really tempted by it’s already very high spec when I was in the market.

Tom,

Thank you so much for the amazing few hours witnessing your expertise in fixing my parasitic battery drain, fitting cruise control and the numerous other bonus fixes and enhancements along the way. It wasn't actually my birthday, but it certainly felt like it. Who knew how satisfying it would be be to hear the cute little beep when locking the car. It was an absolute pleasure chatting to you whilst you disassembled and reassembled the various parts of the car as if it were under your spell. I look forward to meeting you again in future and am excited to now enjoy my new and oh so improved A2. The Cruise control is an absolute joy. The BOSE system has renewed vigour and the voltage reading on the battery now registers a hitherto unseen 12.7 V after been left parked up overnight. You've made a huge difference and you richly deserve the plaudits you get and will continue to get since your talents and qualities are timeless. A shining becon and stellar performance.

We're all incredibly lucky to have you in the A2 community.

Until next time...

Steve
