Timmus in the South East - Summer 2021

A big thank you to Tom yesterday for his time and patience fixing up my slightly knackered silver A2 “Brad”.

got a new colour DIS, which is excellent as you probably know - nice to see not too many faults in the diagnostics. Also nice to have a display for the trip back around the M25 and A3.
Tim was a true gent, also sorting:
-the door micro switch so I can now fuel up properly
- new door strap
- swapped the door speaker for one with a dome without a pushed in cone
- a rear parking sensor speaker
- a new key and helped refurb the existing key
- sorted out my climate control buttons cannibalising my single din “wrong-un” ebay bargain
- new black air vent surrounds, install new working cup holders
- a new tool holder in the back to fit around the battery correctly

its been a busy weekend with a visit to @Kleynie on Saturday for a fantastic OSS fix, with a ride in his new TT (S) and Irma. The only problem is since buying a car with a pano roof I seem to have turned in to a rain god!

car getting there, had a new boot floor delivered for £10 black not twist, but a bargain is a bargain ! And easier to keep clean and also come with a black luggage cover if anyone needs one.

Time to stop spending…

cheers
Rich

I like the black centre panel, it actually looks better that the factory set up.

I have a twist interior and the centre stack is looking tatty, that’s given some ideas there

Its worth a shot - if you don't like it you can keep the original and it may stop getting any worse :D

I would go further and say if you have an A2 you have to get Timmus to check it over. Wattching Timmus in action is an education- he fixed so much duff work done inside my drivers door- you simply HAVE to have him check your car he investigated so much if the operation of the car, fixed the DIS; inspection switch, etc etc doing work in minutes that would take a normal person hours plus of course he has all the replacement bits to sort AND he returns everything to factory standard AMAZING

Wishing a safe return home to young Tom (@timmus) after an epic stay'cation with Ian and lots of A2s (and owners) much the better for it. It has been a pleasure to see Tom four times during his visit (once with Ian - a most enjoyable evening putting the world right). Mostly social visits but headlining removal and a pioneering option that was completed on my A2 feature too. It's not an exciting mod, in the way that colour DIS is say, but it is immensely clever and is something Audi should have done from the factory. It looks factory too, but then you come to take that for granted with the magician he is. Tom will I'm sure add a post or thread on this, I'll not steel his thunder further.

Extending my thanks also to Tom, his company and craftmanship, and to Ian for his company and for being such a good host and providing an ideal base location for the 4 week period.

What an excellent morning getting to meet Tom and Ian then having Tom work his magic on my late father's A2 ,central locking sorted (ccu) then door strap replaced fuel flap now opens via button up until today had been 5yrs from inside the boot lol, also repaired microswitch drivers door. Tom is like a magician with these cars you lose track of what Tom does for you.
I am sure he could do it blindfolded.
Great to chat to Ian explaining how i have fallen in love with as i call it the little BIG car.
Again thankyou both for a very rewarding day.

You're welcome John, it was great to meet you and your little gem :) Like you said to me, I hope your old man's enjoying her from up there?

Just a quick note to thank both @timmus and @Proghound for their expertise, hospitality and all-round friendliness on Wednesday afternoon to get a few niggly issues resolved.

Tom managed to get everything done in a slightly smaller window than anticipated, due to over-running solutioneering on the previous club member's A2 ("Hello Wedge!" @TheLardMeister ) and even performed a first time fix (for Tom), which was providing a new earth for the windscreen wiper motor.

As always, the time flew by and before I knew it it was time for Ian and Tom to hit the road to football town and for me to skeedaddle to pick up the daughters from karate training.

Looking forward to the next time @timmus workshop comes South!

Thanks both @Proghound and @timmus for the impeccable service and community-minded approach.

Like that 'Little Big Car' ?

It was lovely meeting Jim, glorious day by heck it was tense as the time went by and not just at the football! Two brilliant results!!

Hi Antony,
Sorry to report that Tom's schedule for Wednesday has now been finalised from other enquiries that were already in progress, which means there's no more available time left on this occasion. However your requirements will be added to Tom's list of candidates for the next time he's down here: a certain 'critical mass' of demand for his work is needed to make these tours viable so it's good to know there's already potentially a whole day accounted for. There will be some details to establish about the dash and headunit that you've acquired, so Tom will be in contact with you in due course to take your enquiry further. Meanwhile I look forward to welcoming you to my place for the work to take place on a future date.
Regards,
Ian.
Thanks for your help Ian

Well folks, I've now been back at home for a few days. Of course, I've been my usual busy self. I've just about finished unpacking and getting my workshop set up again, but also attended the Cumbria VAG car show on Sunday, which was attended by members of both AA2OG and A2OC. I've also enjoyed a few much-needed days in the countryside. Yesterday I hiked into the Howgill Fells and enjoyed the feeling of elevation as I gazed across their huge grassy domes.

My month in Leighton Buzzard was excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing familiar faces and meeting new people. I also found great satisfaction, as usual, in upgrading and repairing the wonderful cars we all enjoy. Just shy of 50 A2s landed under my nose during my time in the South East, belonging to...
@Darren C @devans @genovese @jaffa_jim @thejohn @A2_E8 @EJB @simon martyn @PragM @gangitano85 @Nyakempanyo @Mr Bennetts @herx @drewroberts @Kleynie @Ami @pandsnolan @tipomark @gmmcd @kujiwara @Trimley61 @Chris Warren @Mightyleader @Scudney @KleineWunder @the_luton_man @quantumtokoloshi @2work @sciroccorrado @Chris93 @slumdog @Eliah @SalA2 @richonenot @TheLardMeister @Johnboy374

I thank you all for entrusting me with your A2s, for bringing them to me from across the region, and for the kind and positive feedback you have sent.

A massive, extra-special round of gratitude is reserved for Ian, @Proghound. I'm delighted to see that so many club members who've had work done by me at Ian's house have also credited Ian in their feedback. It is Ian's generosity, goodwill and flexibility that allows me to bring my services to the region. Whilst he's a wonderful host to all the individuals who visit on a day-by-day basis, his kindness to me goes well beyond.

It is my hope that I'll be back in Leighton Buzzard, at Ian's house, before the year is over. A 'critical mass' of work needs to be reached before an Autumn trip can be penned into the diary. So, if you missed out on this trip, or have further work for me to do on your A2, please get in touch.

Best wishes to all,

Tom

Afternoon Tom,

Thank you very much for taking a month away from your home renovations for us all. It was a pleasure as always.

250’s REW are great and Susan is very happy with this upgrade. Should have hybrid door cards soon enough. I think you’ll get you hands on this A2 again soon enough if I can find the funds for Full or Colour DIS.

When are you going to spill the beans regards what Darren @Darren C had fitted. Still intrigued and feel like I’m missing out on something not knowing what else is being added to the menu list of offerings.

See you next time round.

Kind regards,

Tom

From someone who works on A2's every day I really do appreciate just how much work you've done overe the period Tom and how much dedication that would have taken. Hats off to you and i'm sure you've made a lot of people very happy.
Thank you, Steve. Yes, it certainly felt like a marathon at times, but I was repeatedly recharged by happy A2ers. :)

Darren had a couple of extra connectors fitted. Once fitted, they're out of sight, and add nothing to the driving experience. However, they add a certain extra convenience that you'd hope to use irregularly...

Cheers,

Tom

Thank you for such kind words Tom, it's always a pleasure having you to stay :) If it weren't for all your hard work preparing for the provision of your services away from home, I wouldn't get these opportunies to hold what amounts to extended A2OC socials. Trust me, I get a lot of pleasure from doing this :) It was wonderful to meet everyone who turned up while I was in the house - sorry I missed a couple of folks at weekends, I do hope to meet those people as repeat customers on another occasion - and to welcome more friends old and new ?
