Timmus in the South East - Summer 2021

Hello folks,

Many thanks for all the messages, both here and via PM, and thanks also for your patience in awaiting my response.
A friend of mine died during the first national lockdown, and there has been much discussion about suitable dates for a memorial event. I had to let those conversations play out before I could continue to plan this A2 Tour. It seems that this memorial will happen on Sat 26th and Sun 27th June, though that's to be confirmed by others. Until I know for sure, I shan't be booking any jobs for these dates.

The Schedule
I've decided to include the provisional schedule in the opening post of this thread, such that everyone can see the timetable as it stands.

I'll be spending today sending PMs to make firm arrangements with as many club members as time allows.

As I'm sure many of you can imagine, organising the schedule for these trips can be complicated, as I have to take everybody's requirements and availability into account in order to draw up a schedule that works for everyone. I'll do my very best to get a schedule cast in stone as soon as possible, though I'm reliant upon decisions from many.

Colour DIS
Unfortunately, my stocks of Colour DIS instrument clusters are limited, and I fear I've had more requests than I can satisfy. In the interests of fairness, I intend to prioritise those club members who asked first. However, it may be that some members are happy to forego this upgrade until the next opportunity presents itself.
Member Gangitano85 is permanently taking their A2 to Sicily, meaning a future opportunity is either unlikely or logistically challenging.

I currently have 10 Colour DIS instrument clusters in stock. They are currently assigned as follows...

1. Danny (not part of this tour)
2. Sam (not part of this tour)
3. Joss (not part of this tour)
4. @dj_efk
5. @jaffa_jim
6. @devans
7. @Cenick
8. @gmmcd
9. SPARE
10. SPARE

So, I have two Colour DIS clusters that have not yet been assigned, and have had enquires from the following members about installing this upgrade as part of this tour...
@thejohn
@gangitano85
@Nyakempanyo
@KleineWunder
@genovese

I obviously can't install 2 clusters in 5 cars, so I'm looking for your collective help to resolve the matter. @KleineWunder, your message above suggests that you're not yet committed to having Colour DIS installed. Is that correct?

Cheers,

Tom
Yes Tom, I'll have to leave the colour DIS for another time please. Regards Barney

Morning Tom, i can also postpone the colour DIS too if that helps all concerned. I’m still in for the cruise control though of course. Thank you. Andy

Thank you, gentlemen. Much appreciated. Further opportunities for Colour DIS will present themselves, of course, either at my base or at the 'Leighton Buzzard Satellite'. :)

Leighton Buzzard, please, Andy.

Is 4:30pm OK?

Cheers,

Tom

That will suit me perfectly Tom, thank you. (And all noted re Leighton Buzzard rather than Horsham, again no problem). Did you want to PM me with the address and postcode in LB Tom ? Thanks, andy

Hi Tom,

When is my presence required in LB? Should I be waiting for the summons?

Best,

Simon.
Hi Simon,

I'm still fielding lots of messages in the background, trying to draw up a schedule that suits everyone. The schedule, as shown in Post 1 of this thread, is gradually taking shape.
People like yourself, who have offered to be extremely flexible, are often the last to be assigned their slot ...precisely because you're able to be flexible. It is much appreciated; thank you! Hopefully I'll have a cast-in-stone schedule ready soon.
Would you want me to bring support brackets?
If you mean the little black, vaguely-triangular pieces that hold the extreme corners of the rear bumper, yes, please bring them along. We may find that the ones currently attached to the car are a bit weak/broken.

Warm regards,

Tom

Fabulous. 4:30 it is!

@Proghound or I will send a massive group message with the address/postcode/etc once the full list of visiting members is concluded. :)

Looking forward to meeting you.

Tom

@timmus Can you swap out my speedo stepper motor while your down south?
Hi Mark,

Sorry for my general radio silence on this matter. Yes, this trip presents us with a good opportunity.
Are weekdays possible for you, or do you have a strong preference for a weekend day?

All the best,

Tom

I'll think about the colour DIS and give you an answer as quickly as possible
Hello sir,

Have you come to a decision about this? Demand for Colour DIS outstrips my current stock, so others are keen to know whether they can have the upgrade or not. However, because you'll be taking the car to Sicily, you've got 'first dibs', so to speak. :)
As an alternative, I can offer to install a standard DIS cluster with a fresh screen that will stand the heat of Sicily for at least a good few years before the inevitable heat-induced screen fade starts.

Cheers,

Tom

The fredsh standard DIS is a good compromise, so I'll go for that

Hello good people of A2OC,

The easing of the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions means that, once again, I am able to travel to provide A2 services. I'd like to thank everyone who has brought their A2 to me over the last months and supported me during these challenging and uncertain times. It is much appreciated.

I'm acutely aware that I still owe a number of club members replies to their messages. Unfortunately, being my own secretary, I can struggle to reply to private messages promptly when work is busy. Rest assured, no message goes unanswered and I will get back to you. Thanks for your patience.

From Friday 11th June, I intend to base myself in Leighton Buzzard, just to the north of London. Massive thanks are owed to @Proghound for allowing me to work and sleep at his house. The length of my stay in Leighton Buzzard is determined solely by the demand for my time; there is no strict date in my diary by which I must depart. From previous experiences, my stays usually last between two and three weeks.
It is also my hope/intention to visit @Ami’s workshop in Horsham. This will make my services available to some club members who aren't able to get to Leighton Buzzard. Leighton Buzzard is the default location for all unless otherwise arranged.

I shall do my utmost to fulfil as many requests as possible. However, please be aware that there are some limitations to the range of services that I can provide when away from home. For example, some upgrades require parts that I won't have the space to transport. Some parts may be out of stock or unavailable due to Brexit or the continued impact of the pandemic. I also cannot complete all upgrades at weekends, so I'd be grateful if Saturdays and Sundays were left available to those with no alternative. The final limitation is that there's only one of me, for which many are surely much relieved!

At the bottom of this message, I have tagged many club members who have made contact with me in recent months who may appreciate my greater proximity. However, this is not an exhaustive or exclusive list; my services are open to all who are able to meet me.

For those who are unfamiliar with my services, an overview can be seen here:

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Ray, I'm sure Tom won't mind me pointing you in the direction of member @Kleynie who is the man you need to talk to for OSS repairs. Equally convenient for you as he's only just down the road in the Heathrow area. It'd be great to meet you in Leighton Buzzard though, if there's any other repair or upgrade you're looking for that Tom could provide while he's down this way.
