Today I.....

....was able to fully check over my recent purchase from sciroccorrado in the daylight and without getting rained on.

I’m quite pleased with it on the whole, it’s in reasonable nick and a long drive home from Leicester to Portsmouth certainly did it some good after a period of standing idle.

There are a number of things to attend to, nothing too drastic but the list is beginning to grow the more I look at it.

So, it needs....

A service (waiting for a favourable weather window)
Tracking and wheel balancing (horrendous wobble at motorway speeds)
Replace interior lights (who in their right mind fits blue LEDs?)
Swap the worn climate control unit for the unworn one (thanks Jeremy)
Investigate ‘clunk’ noise from NSF strut area (likely to be top mount)
Assess clutch movement (is there any adjustment possible, does anyone know?)
Replace NSF door check strap (Depronman, are you still supplying?)
Replace iffy tyres
Attend to sagging roof lining (may have to wait until the OSS is repaired)
Repair windscreen wiper mechanism (I haven’t dared to look under the gaffer tape which is seemingly covering up a problem)
Investigate lumpy idle (I might be imagining this but it doesn’t seem as smooth as the 195,000 Silverpig)
Decide on the fate of the aforementioned Silverpig (old, tired and slightly scarred but still running happily, and I’m very attached to it!)
Oh, and fit my recently purchased sports seats which were an £18 Ebay bargain (anyone interested in a soon to be surplus set of clean Soul seats?)

Think that’s it for the time being, I’m sure there’s a few more little surprises awaiting!
Oh so you bought the seats from Chippenham, I would have bid but too far to go. You got a bargain there. Good luck with the new car

Clunk noise is more likely to be drop links or anti role bar bushed than top mount (both much easier to fix than top mount)
There is no adjustment on the hydraulic clutch on the A2
Yes I still do the check straps (£25 + £3 postage + £20 deposit returned when I get you old strap back)
Roof lining is difficult to repair, better to look out for a good S/H one - normally caused by water ingress else they don't sag
If the issue is the wiper arm, then I offer a refurb service on an exchange basis for both Hook and Aero style wiper arms (new bushes / stainless steel pins, repaint and on the Aero arm a 3D printed cover to keep the rain out and lub in / look better as well £30 for the hook style / £40 for the Aero arm and cover + £7 delivery and £50 deposit

PM me if you want any / all of the above

Cheers,
Paul (Depronman)

I have just bought a full black leather seat set in mint condition to put away for my future silver a2 with oss yes still looking for one a well known member had one I was interested in but it has grey interior I’m looking for black ..so 2002 onwards I have since been told by Steve..View attachment 59654.my question is how do I open the rear seats as they are folded up and locked I saw a picture of them in situ so I know they are perfect ..but I want to polish up before storing ..?

There is a good set in German ,just like I wish but seller is asking for 700 eur and the dialogue is not that confident ...I am not willing to pay ? and wait all my life for the seats to arrive ?
Although I’m still thinking how nice my A2 would look with those seats ?

I heard earlier today from my good friend Menno a Dutch a2 owner who is also on our site ...we moan over here at the cost of running a car they have in Holland put his equivalent of our road tax up in 2020 to wait for it €1150 a year for a 1.4 amf tdi ..at today’s exchange rate that’s £972.53 a year we pay £30 ...he’s not sure he can keep it as he can’t go into Rotterdam and other big towns either ..sooner we are out of Europe the better ..(oops controversial) ?

You'll need to make sure you vote to make it happen, i have. :D

Not really sure why leaving the EU has anything to do with what other countries charge their citizens for VED but if it keeps you happy...

BTW banning diesels from city centres has already started here and will be expanded to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen that I know of within the next year or so.

God knows who people are going to blame for bad stuff when we're out.

On another topic Weetank's cousin Murray changed over my ns front wheel bearing at the weekend. Plus point - already had a wheel bearing kit that I've had stowed away...bad point I gave Murray the wrong torque figure for the hub nut and the thread on the CV joint decided it had enough. New CV joint bought. If only I had someone to blame right? :D

Thanks, were you bidding too? Just collected them this morning, they need a good clean and fettle, particularly the driver’s seat, but for £18.50 I couldn’t possibly complain!

Yes I did bid so sorry I think if I hadn't joined in you might have got them for 99p. I would have bid more but for the distance to collect. Good luck with cleaning them, I am sure they will be a lovely addition to your new car.

 made a correct calculation, sorry, it's only Euro 1044,-.......... have to say it's a Dutch roadtax law, and doesn't apply to the other european country's.
It becomes so high because the Dutch goverment wants to get rid of the (old) diesels and is adding some kind of "sooth partikel" pollution tax on top of the normal roadtax.

It’s a huge hit my friend (not much less than I stated ) what concerns me is the following not everyone can afford a new car complying with these new regulations ..Hi earners don’t have a problem I would like to see road fund stay the same on the older cars fair enough bringing in new tax rate for newer cars ..but where does this end you could have a 30-year-old classic car that is road fund license free and very polluting is that fair ..if you have average Joe earning an average wage struggling with bills as it is he buys a secondhand electric car in a few years time and finds the batteries need replacing £4000 plus how can he afford that ..the way we are heading there will be no cheap run arounds ..and while we are on the subject then I heard they are already sample dredging the seabed for the highly valuable metals to make more batteries ..is that eco friendly ..I have no answers ..but it’s not an easy subject to debate .

New Audi battery and Continental ContiPremiumContact 185/50R16 81V boots fitted.
Used the little car, (despite the rain) to go to a British Cycling Go-ride event today, as transport for my son and his bike. I was spotted on arrival by one of the other dads, who recognised the car. "Is that your mint A2?" he enquired, "I fitted your new battery the other day and reset the one touch on the electric windows. We don't see many A2s these days, and none as nice..." Turns out he's the longest serving Master Technician at Audi Guildford, resident A2 expert, and a big fan of our little aluminium design studies.

Scott,
I'm confused why would stripping the thread on the CV joint mean that the wheel bearing just replaced needs to be replaced again ?
This makes no sense at all, simply replace the CV joint and the one time use nut (J&R on ebay do the CV kit for £15 + £5 delivery and you get everything, boot, joint, grease, clips and nut) They are very good quality

Awch that must have hurt I got a full set of 4 H&R ones for only £8 more than you paid for the single cv joint

It should be really easy. It can sometimes help to put a knee in the middle of the seat between the two studs though.
Perfect thanks for that ? I opened them easily I haven’t latched close but I gave them a good clean before putting a piece of cardboard where the seatbelt is and just loosely folded....
