Today I.....

Today I took out the glovebox to sort out the glovebox light, it seems that the wedge that breaks the contact is broken and also the switch is defective. Also does the glovebox light only come on with the side/head lights on. I did try both but still no joy.

Hi, I also fixed my glove box light and yes it only comes on when you have the side lights on. I glued it with epoxy resin and also took out a rubber gromit to which the wedge/actuator sits on, this avoids any pressure on the lid re-breaking the actuator.

If your rear number plate light are working then you know it’s not the fuse

The wedge breaking means that the glovebox light is on all the time the sidelights/headlights are on, which will often lead to a blown bulb.
This all needs glove box removal which took a bit more effort than I expected as you have to take off some trim elements. One of the trim elements needed significant amount of force to remove which made me think twice whilst doing it. Once I was in I had a number of glovebox related things to fix which I did and it was quite a satisfying experience when done.

Firstly thanks to all for the pointers. the bulb had gone and changed to a known good bulb and still no joy when the side/headlights a on. it's all back together for now but I will investigate further by checking power to the switch. my No plate lights are working so its not the fuse.

I make and supply for £3.50 plus 85p postage a repair part for the glove box light.
it clips over the hinge shaft and allows you to position it correctly so that it breaks the two contacts when the glove box lid is opened. once in position a couple of drops of superglue secures it once and for all
Its a 3D printed part and much more substantial that the Audi part which is quite fragile
PM me if you want one
Cheers,
Paul

Today I also completed my first commute in the A2. I admire its surprising motorway cruising ability, the more upright driving position and turn of pace for such a modest set of figures.

Less enamoured with it losing a headlight bulb and a non working front wiper within 250 miles of purchase...

...more miles on my A4, but it's a wonderful way to commute nonetheless.

Is the wiper due to the ground?

It whirrs when I put the stalk on still, so I'm hoping so. Not sure how to tap a wire from the motor to part of the engine block to establish a ground.

Test it first, ground can come from loads of places just need exposed metal

I tried a long chisel from the motor to the screw atop the engine cover and nothing happened, but I wasnt sure if that would have held a current. It was just a quick test whilst at work. Taking the bonnet off for the first time was an experience!

Mmm that should do it, ignition on of course.

If the motor is working then it's probably not an earth problem. Perhaps check that the wiper arm retaining nut is tight as it could simply be that the drive shaft is slipping?

Hello
I had my arm cracked by the windscreen guy, when he refitted the wiper arm. The crack was barely visible. The motor was running but the wiper wasn't moving.
I would suggest to take the arm off, check the shaft is moving when you set the wiper on.
If it is the arm, I am sure someone on here will help you out.

Good Luck.

Cheers guys, taking it to a local specialist tomorrow in the hope it's a simple fix and not a relay or motor.

I change my bulbs before the winter to ensure best performance but you do still get odd failures due o potholes etc.

... I found two jacking point covers missing, as we all know, they cant fall out as they have a retaining loop. Wonder if it is the same owner who pinched my hub caps 5 years ago?

I lost one last week in the deep flooded section on my commute ?

Finished off fitting the JOM coilover kit. Needed to fit longer bolts in the rear spring adjusters and fit the shorter "bmw" front drop links.
I've left it on minimum on the rear and about 10mm clear thread on the front until the springs settle and then I will check it over. Over christmas I decided to leave my current position and its 400 mile a week commute, so the mileage will drop massively.
The ride is a little firmer than the ones that were removed but not uncomfortably so, the ride is better than I had expected considering the full kit was under £170! The kit looks like its made in Germany and isnt really cheap looking, Took me about 5 hours for the whole job. The worst part was the rear arch liners caked in mud from the lane where the workshop is. Rear lower spring rubbers were shot but no longer required.
