Today I.....

Yes it’s an Irish import from new. I’ll stop now though because it’s starting to turn into an advert and the car won’t be available via the forum.
That’s one I missed cracking buy there Steve ..if your not keeping e bay auction it may well really sunrise you i for one would bid on it being a low mile diesel and I’ve also got a really good friend who would want it ..roll the dice on this one ??

Do what you think is best, you do sooo much to help us all keep our pride and joys on the road, you deserve to earn a bit for your young family.
You know this will sell any day of the week with it's history and beautiful colour, despite it being low spec.
Good luck

How did you diagnose the problem? Did you get the abs warning up or was it a different warning?

ABS was OK. It was the brake wear symbol. For some reason this cable is more likely to fail than the ABS cable. Actually I had the brake wear cable first come up about 6 years ago and I found the socket (i.e. female part) broken and I managed to repair it using epoxy. Possibly heavy handed garage when the pads were changed. Whether the socket has now failed again or whether I have the common break in the cabling I'm unsure. At 16 years old it is probably the cable.

I've since realised than you can actually replace the plugs and socket casings though you need the tools to release the connectors within the plug and socket. And you can also get new crimp male and female connectors for inserting into the plugs and sockets. Something like this socket (i.e. female) complete with the crimps (probably not using the right terms!):

Had a good day. I was contacted by an old lady who lived locally having decided to give up driving and was looking to sell her TDI. I don’t buy/sell anymore but with the same family from new, only 27k miles on the clock and 16 service stamps I really couldn’t say no to it; it’s the call we all hope for ?
What a nice phone call to get Steve. Definitely not one to turn down. Co-incidently this video just popped up on my YT recommendations

First lady had her Anglia for 36 years and I estimate the 2nd lady with her Riley Mini Elf for 40+ years. I'm surprised the rust bugs hadn't eaten them!

PS Does anyone else feel were being watched too closely by google ;)

..and the last few days, is it me or have postage charges on eBay overnight gone through the roof and some silly thing about Cyprus?

I've ordered 3 but might only use two, I'm tempted to frame the other against some nice dark blue satin and hang it on the wall.
No, I'm not joking.
I have ordered three too. One for my silver TDI, one for my wife’s Storm and one to put away for when Peter decides to sell the “holy grail” back to me ????????????????????????????????
I might frame it to remind me that I may need it one day (I hope)

I bet my guys at DS Motorsport in Coventry could beat that including transporting the car to and from theirs from Kent (esp as the knowledge will be fresh from doing Merlin and hence they can do it that much quicker!). I can give you Dan’s number if you wish? They are excellent
