Today I.....

Today I .... had a little dose of karma. Had not much option other than to mow down a pheasant this morning - traffic sadly both oncoming and too close behind me when it darted out. Inevitable result, A2=1, Nature=0 :( No damage to the A2 except to loosen a foglight surround which I just clipped back in. But this lunchtime I came out to find a mahooooosive bird poo on its roof :D

“But this lunchtime....I had a lovely pheasant roast” is how that sentence should have ended ?

Today I am over the moon!

Project 250 failed its MOT but only on brake disks being heavily corroded on the inside edge.

The brake test showed the whole braking system to be functioning perfectly so still really happy.

I’m sure a quick trip to ECP this afternoon will solve this issue and see it fly through the retest.

Purchasing a vehicle this cheap was always a gamble but it looks like all will be good.

Kind regards,

Tom

Congrats Tom, could you update the thread on it and discuss the numbers? Always interesting to see what an be done to “rescue” an economically borderline car with relatively little outlay.

We have sound! an awful alternator whine, too, but hey, can't win em all... will look for that source tonight.
Good! If it is an alternator whine then
you have already found the source ;)
The remaining to find out is the path and perhaps also the victim. The path is likely conducted through power supply wiring, but may in turn also be through capacitive coupling to near signal harnesses.

Today we treated our A2 1.4TDI to a new timing belt kit and water pump, freewheeling alternator pulley and other items that were expertly replaced by Robert and Marcus at WOM Automotive.

Had to travel around 150 miles but it was well worth the trip. The courtesy car was a nice yellow A2 colour storm.

Managed to have a nice walk in the beautiful countryside around Dimmingsdale Valley for a few hours while the work was done.

Thank you Robert and Marcus.?

Nope. This uses a SPH-10BT headunit (Pioneer), some Axton ATC165 fronts (silk 25mm tweeters! Cups included, they're screwed onto the a-pillars) and a no-name 8" sub. Along with three PG amps - 2 x 350.2s for the front and a 300.1 for the sub - and some testing tells me the sub amp is screwed. And both the 350s have dirty pots / dodgy switches, which is not what I wanted to see. It sounds *good*, though, with massive adjustability - the head unit brings 31 band EQ with and probably some time alignment (haven't worked out how to get there yet), along with dB adjustments per speaker output... and a decent smartphone holder. Which you then can't use with the cupholders up front, but you win some, you lose some... HU brings massive BT connectivity with, including built-in handsfree which seems surprisingly good, and also a dedicated sub out. Got to sort those amps out, though. Might yet replace them with something a little smaller, class D, and more power at the same time.

Ah, I see. I only ask as alternator whine is very common on VW group cars with Bose and aftermarket HUs.
There’s no accepted single conclusion as to how (or even if) it’s resolvable.

Found where I had stored my chrome trim so decided to stick it on... Tape securing the corners temporarily.

Thanks guys. Not a show car by any stretch of the imagination ( nor photoshop touch ups ) just a daily driver.

Here in the Netherlands I've done some retrofitting and aftermarket audio upgrades for dutch A2 Club members. Both retrofit of concert and/ or bose could lead to engine whine. This is 9/10 times the ground connection of the car to radio or unsufficient shielding of signalleads to amps. If nothing else works, connect radio and amp and/or signal leads to a common ground together.
I have experimented with imaging en staging ofnrhe audiospectrum in our A2. At the same time I wanted a stealth look as possible. In the end I ended up with a 3-way frontsystem, back fill with upgraded woofers and a selfmade subenclosure with KEF 10" subwoofer in the boot, where the original bose sub would be. Highs are scan speak 1", mids are 4" radical audio an woofers are 6,5" Audio Art.

No aftermarket stick on chrome ( plastic ) strip. Comes on a roll in my case 15mm wide by 15m long. Maybe got 1-2m spare. Nearly all my other Audis have had the chrome window surrounds and I felt the A2 needed a little boost / update.

What do you think?

I think they enhance the look and Audi should have supplied higher spec cars with such trims from new. My Touran has exactly the same kind of trims as it’s an SEL model, whereas lower spec cars made do without.
