Evening Menno,

What an elegant alternative to a Symphony. I guess the wiring was fairly straight forward as they’re all from the same family.

Looks really nice, very well done.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanx!

? The wiring is a bit of a thing..... There was originally an RNSD. The wiring is a little bit different on A2's with these, especially after a dodgy installation of an Android radio by the former owner. A well, it looks good, plays well only have to sort the on/off by ignition and the lighting. Have to dig deeper into the control area network I guess.....

Menno,

This sounds like the CAN as you mention. If it’s all connected correctly which I’m sure it will be; it might be something as simple as playing with the coding. The exact same issues are observed when a RNS-E (from an A3) is initially plugged into the A2. All is resolved once the coding has been changed from A3 to A6. Not sure what coding options will be available with the head unit though.

Kind regards,

Tom

Please let us know if you manage to sort the ignition switched power. I have yet to find a solution for the Symphony II + unit fitted to Buzz.

If the CAN coding doesn’t sort it can’t you power it (or relay connect it) to the aircon power which is ignition switched?

I guess you’ll lose the ability to have the radio on without the key in the run position but you’ll avoid any accidental power drain issues.

I will for sure let you know if I can find a solution.
I guess the problem is the different CAN language between Audi/VAG models.
I'm really far from know how about CAN protocols and the way they work, but I do know that there's always switched ignition and lighting problems if you put an A3, A4 radio in an A2.
If the language is known, it's possible to install a CAN simulator or maybe to translate original CAN to alternative (what the radio listens to in commands)......

As far as I have seen this was skipped from model year 2002 when the radio generation 2 with can was introduced.
I fitted a piggy back fuse connector into the fuse box, to pick up a switched +ve connection. Can't remember which one though!

Switching on and of according to ign key goes over can bus. Do you have the two can bus signal wired up?
Thank you, yes, CAN is connected (was tested by Tom - timmus) which makes me think there is no solution. It's not a big issue to switch off manually though I'll revisit once the car is back in regular use.

I wondered, as my 05 TT is canbus, but still has the S Contact. I used it for aftermarket radio. Must be used elsewhere, or it would be omitted.
How about the OBD supply, F37, I think? That's ignition switched, isn't it?
Mac.
