Today I.....

ok so today i took my A2 in for MOT. Alas a fail on multiple stuff, a few which are somewhat embarrassing and easily fixed.
  1. Managed to put my directional wheels on the wrong way round and didn't even notice. Thats a fail! Whoopsee.
  2. NS headlight aim too low - easy fix
  3. I'm getting NS rear binding (again) despite a new caliper so suspect I've got a handbrake cable problem and need to replace. Need to find part number likely for both sides but I do note that the part to bring them together underneath the handbrake is something that people also buy? Handbrake itself not moving freely which also points to the cable. Annoying given how much I've spent (money and time) trying to fix such is the problem with older cars though.
  4. Power steering pipe corroded beyond acceptable limits so need to replace. Assuming this is 8Z2423891F- assuming I'll need 8Z2423893F also?

@Jellybean Have you tried replacing the air bag loom? Are you using the correct one as there are 2 types? Or have you made the one you had fit?
No. The loom came with the steering wheel, removed from one of my other cars. It worked OK for 2 years!
However will try swapping loom and possibly steering wheel.

Just to add insult to injury looks like the local Edinburgh TPS are now no longer dealing with non trade after using them for many years.

Seems Audi really dont want us running about with old cars.

Trying to get 8Z0609721D and 8Z0609722D (I think) but not sure what else I need to purchase to go with these in case of other parts that go with the replacement...

Volkservice.co.uk use TPS and are based in Blackpool but have got parts for a few of the guys on here even though they live in Scotland. Give them a try you have nothing to loose.

Thanks Stan - never had something so serious to try and fix for a retest so no ideas around how I get all this organised but in essence I'll need to accept the car is off the road until I get this stuff remediated and forget about the "free retest". I'm beginning to think its time to throw in the towel as I've got so many other things on right now and this is just making me feel angry - I've invested so much time and effort trying to keep the car on the road and it always manages to find a way to poke me in the eye.

I got mine back in May it was MOT'D until late August but as I went around it I knew it would turn into a project. It's been off the road since then and I buy bits for it each month. I have all new springs for the rear along with drums & shoes. I'll need to get new brake pipes as well. So far in I might as well do the bushes and tidy up the rear axle beam. The front. I have just ordered the Bilstein springs and shocks and will get all else to go with it.plus new discs. The Oss will need sorting and it will get a new timing belt and water pump before its new MOT whenever that happens. Just got a set of black leather heated MK1 TT front seats so that's a bit more work. All the switches are soft touch, another job. Wheels could do with a refurb as well. A touch of the Timmus magic wouldn't go amiss somewhere along the line. Good job I plan to retire in a few years time. Still seems a £900 bargain to me, love driving it.

... took the A2 out, testing to see if I can fix the warped disks with multiple heavy brakings ... nope. Meh, those disks are really warped and they're not even that old :(
At least I got the amp probably sorted. Maybe - a new cable has improved things massively. Just need to do some heat management now for the sub amp and we'll be good. It's really nice to drive at the moment, though I think the droplinks will need replacing shortly. Something to do in the new house...

My MOT is approaching checked last years for advisories, there was one, new wiper blade, I`ve had 11 1/2 months, now just 2weeks, so I trolled on here about a replacement for the aero blade type, to no avail, but I did keep on coming across people cleaning their old ones, which I ignored at first.
So this morning I took off the old one scraped off the line of green moss on the sky side, and gave it a clean with soapy water, and hey presto, as good as new, well should get me through the test.

Happy Bunny.

Yes as long as they aren't split fairy liquid gets them back as good as new ?

Best not to wait 11 1/2 months next time though ?

…..drove past the potato waffle lorry inferno on the M6 just after 7am, just in front of emergency services. I wonder what caused it - no injuries thankfully but the heat was unbelievable.

Bet the smell was OK though ?.
Probably a binding trailer brake overheating.
