Today I.....

Evening all,

Today I…. am very happy. I have finally obtained the correct Slip Ring to continue the Heated MFSW venture:

It is the AL Revision which was also superseded by the Q Revision. This great little AL item will do just fine though and was found on eBay.de which our friend Rick @Rickmeister assisted with. Thank you so much Rick, legend!

I can already see a massive difference already by it having thick copper tracks inside which will take the current. Really happy with this.

Here’s the rear:

On the rear it has an additional 2 pin socket which has been missing in my previous trials:

It also has the maximum about if pins for a future project but for now it’ll just be for the MFSW buttons:

Warm fingers crossed I have this fitted and working with my prototype heated steering wheel in no time.

A factory heated steering wheel is also on route so I’m only utilising VAG parts.

Kind regards,

Tom
I just can't imagine ever getting down my list of jobs to 'heated steering wheel mod' you lucky thing. Maybe in a few more years... look forward to the finished article. ?

Evening Edd,

Yes it really isn’t a necessity but a warm welcomed one nonetheless. If you’ve followed the Project OEM+ Thread you’ll see that most if not all conceivable retrofits have been added along with some firsts in an A2.

Apart from routine maintenance I have pretty much run out of things to tinker with on this one.

Quite excited to finally have my pioneering FBMFSW finished off to be honest.

Kind regards,

Tom

Today I fitted my new pepperpots! Well I’m being a bit economical with the truth there as I failed at the first trying to get the old wheels off, my torque wrench wasn’t up to the job, or I need to go down the gym more. So I copped out and took Gracie down to the place I’d visited with the Polo in the morning and he put them on for me. Got to say I’m absolutely blown away by how much they improve the ride, it’s gone from being pretty noisy and crashy to very absorbent, it manages the worst bumps in Surrey’s lousy roads smoothly and quietly. And they look mint too… here’s a photo, apologies for Gracie looking rather grubby, they do rather suit her though ?

In case anyone’s interested, I’ll be putting my old 16” SE wheels up for sale in the next few days. They’re in very decent condition.

The question is, what's the next project??? ? this one will have a waiting list to buy. I'd like to see more crazy custom work and wild paint jobs but I guess the car doesn't lend itself to that very well. By the way do you know a business who can restore the seat foam and retrim a driver seat back to standard?

Funny you should ask Edd,

I’ve only just finished my first seat dismantle and reassemble. It’s actually quite an easy task once you know how. The hog rings are a pain but nothing too difficult with a the right tools. I don’t know anywhere that does this kind of work as I always have a go myself first.

Open up a new thread about it and I’ll join in the conversation. Or you could just PM me and take it from there.

As for the next project in the OEM+ A2, I just don’t know. I need to save some pennies to finally get the Votex kit painted and fit the refurbished A8 wheels. Once that’s complete I think I’ll struggle to find any further VAG OEM+ Items.

Kind regards,

Tom

I think I will make a thread someone will have had it done. With so many jobs on a2s I can see why people buy two!! By the way I meant what project car is next, seeing as this one's on home straight.

Hi Edd,

Haha sorry understood. Well I do have Project 250 that has plenty of items in the garage to make it an exact match tech wise as the OEM+ A2.

Once that’s complete then I guess it’ll be find another reasonably priced A2 to play with.

Kind regards,

Tom

I completely agree, moving from 16” se with cheap tyres to pepperpots with Michelin cross-climates literally transformed the car for me. Even many months on since the change, the difference is immeasurable!

Today I got confirmation that Audrey will come back home to me after being away for a year on loan to my brother in law and his girlfriend once the insurance policy expires on the 7th December.

I cannot wait to get her back. This does mean however that Akoya will be up for sale in the new year to finance repairs to the roof of my new workshop once the seat swap has been completed. It’s going to be hard to say goodbye to that silver pocket rocket, but ultimately Audrey is my first love and I only need the one A2!

Does anyone think they’ll have a need for a TDi90 with replaced DMF, oil pump chain and turbo and ALL the desirable upgrades in the new year? I will put up an ad in due course. I will not sell outside the club to ensure she goes to a good home. I don’t care how long it takes for a new suitor to make themselves known.

Today the little beast went in for a new head gasket. She cleverly waited until I'd bought new shocks and springs, new joints for the drive shafts, a repair Flexi for the exhaust before taking to pressurising the coolant. Had I not already purchased these parts she may have been sent to the scrapper. Which would have been a shame considering only 18 months ago she got a new turbo, oil chain, cam belt, alternator, clutch, gearbox, red leather interior, engine mounts and tyres :)

Wow, she's mint now then for another 100k

Today, I rescued yet another A21.4 tdi with 114k miles, on the clock for a lovely lady I met by accident in Worthing, from the scrapyard.
The car drove fantastic, Audi had quoted £3000 to repair the damge. ( She had hit a bullard not claimed from insurance )
With thanks to @Proghound for supplying the door & @RS11SMS for the Sill, 1/2 liter of paint & sundries etc for the rear door & wing 8 hours solid work.
Job done, with less than a quarter of Audi price, She was extatic as She has had the car for seven years & didn,t want to part with it.
So tired, but so happy :) :)
