Today I.....

today i used my chorus 2 tape player for the first time! nostalgic feels!

my car came with a gaudy aftermarket sony which i was keen to swap out so to keep the car oem ive fitted a chorus 2 it would have had originally.
i ordered a bluetooth kit from china so whilst i await its arrival i bought a cassette off ebay.

id imagine the feeling i had was similar to those of the vinyl generation playing records after all these years

I used to play cassette tapes in the car as late as 2005, but since then my cars have all had CD players, and more lately SD card / aux-in ability for MP3's. I did a project about 12-13 years back to rip all my old vinyls and tapes to MP3. Took me ages and now I never play any of that stuff, the sound quality is a lot lower than those I've got the CD's for, or have bought commercially. With most of my tapes being around 40 years old I do wonder how long they'd last if they were played now, I had to retire some through surface disintegration even back in the day. The vinyls should be as good as they ever were though.

I still have my original Chorus cassette player but not had any tapes for years. I thought about upgrading to a CD unit and playing some CDs for nostalgia. I did buy one of those USB devices that plays music on an SD card through the Chorus speakers. Not used that for a while as not been doing any long journeys.

I do sometimes dream it would be good to get a modern EV with an infotainment system (can these stream music?) or getting one of those Android infotainment systems and fitting it in the square section on the top of the dash

now that ive put the chorus in we dont have any way of playing optical media in my household. not a cd/dvd/bluray player in sight! even the wifes car has an android headunit so no cd drive.

as an aside, we had a copy of my sons christmas nativity a few weeks back on dvd... still no idea whats on there 😄

i think mp3s may well be obsolete too in favour of streaming services but maybe there'll be a digital resurgence in the next few decades!

I made the decision that Mabel is going to have to be SORN'd for a while.
Had rough idle.forna while and we.changed plugs, plus coil packs (which clearly needed doing) and cleaned up the earth's.
The result of all this was a failure to start. Managed to get her started and went for a drive, to get a lag in pulling away, followed by a stall and not starting. After about 10 mins, she started and drove home to Gary's fine.
Next weekend, wouldn't start. Vcds showed multiple misfires, misfire cylinder 1 and fuel pressure regulation.
Reset codes, gave all coil packs and the fuel pressure regulator a tap and started fine. Went for a lovely long drive with no problems. No EML. Rescanned and multiple missfire/cylinder 1 misfire, but running ok.
This weekend, started fine, got 500 meters up the road and she conked out.
Thankfully Gary and his dad were able to tow her back to Gary's.
I had booked her in for her mot next week after last weekends happy driving, but I'm going to to have to Sorn her now as I just don't have the money to leave her with a garage to sort out until the summer 😞

Sad to hear that T, fingers crossed it's something that's not too hard or expensive to sort out come Summer. At least you've got Barney and Gary's TDI in the meantime :)

This week as a test of my financial resilience my tdi 90 has started with some hesitation when under load. The fuel filter is pretty recent, injector loom has been replaced and is always ran on brand name fuels.
I'm thinking the fuel pump might be the next thing to be replaced since it's original and on 160k miles.

thanks Ian. just ran another scan and it is showing fuel pressure regulator and air mass sensor which i think are relatively straight forward for a garage to change when the time comes hopefully

Today we sadly waved goodbye to Gracie in Warrington Morrisons after 3 happy years of ownership. Will truly miss her, but I’m sure she’s in good hands with @robskiA2tdi. While we were up there we bought a replacement (of sorts), a 2014 VW Up! with stupidly low miles. Really nice little car with some of the packaging cleverness of the A2 IMHO and the owners club seems surprisingly active. Though we’re sans A2 for now I hope that‘ll only be temporary and I’ll still be keeping an eye on the forum. So long and thanks for all the fish… for now 🙂.

Hope to see you back one day Malcolm, you know you'll miss the all-round versatility of the A2 no matter how clever the Up! is :D

Today I've picked up new to me a2 1.4 90tdi colour storm with 6speed gearbox, massive difference compared to my 75tdi 5speed, estimated 600miles motorway range on full tank and calculated at pump 65mpg sounds great, nice to see rev needle at 2000 doing 70...

I‘ll be shocked and seriously impressed if you manage to average 65mpg, it’ll ask some questions about my driving 🤔… on the trip up from Surrey (70mph most of the way and with an extra gearbox in the boot) we averaged 57.

Filled up to rim at Morrisons we met, did 102 miles where 80% on mway up Cumbria and filled up to rim again...7.07L went in, with my calculation it's 65.9 mpg unless I'm wrong so really happy with result @Malcyb

I know just what you mean a couple of months of getting Little Atom which I knew would need some work I found even more issues so I decided to go full in remove the back axle to do a refurb on plus brakes suspension hand brake cables and rear bushes. I still have all the front to do but in-between I was made redundant so come this spring / summer I hope to get it back on the road and then I can get the OSS sorted. Nothing like a project. Hope you get yours sorted as soon as possible. 👍
You know their worth it.

Most I could get on motorway driving was 54mpg at 70-75 with my tdi, two people and a bit of luggage

Eventful day working on my poorly A2 today. Passenger side Rear drum brakes, seized brake cylinder replaced and brakes bled. Heat shield around exhaust re secured as had fallen down onto exhaust. Might tackle the worn dog bone mount tomorrow (weather depending)
Ohh the joys of motoring lol
