Today I.....

Today I (just over an hour ago) arrived home on a recovery vehicle after a 5 hour wait for help. My new 3 day old Michelin Primacy front tyre in shreds and the back one also gone thanks to a pot hole. Praying that the wheel is ok!!

So sorry to hear this Heather, how bl**dy annoying that must be! At least you're safe home now. Fingers crossed that the light of tomorrow doesn't reveal anything else amiss 🤞

Hopefully you took some pictures and can claim back the cost of repairs.

I was recovered 30 miles to Mr Tyre which is just down the road from where I live, so hopefully she's in the right place to assess the damage first thing in the morning. They fitted my new tyre for me on Monday and were really good. Thanks for the good wishes.

Make sure you claim on the council. This may eventually make them fill in the pot holes

I spoke with a resident on the lane where it happened and he said that there have been several incidences. It's been in the local paper about the state of the road apparently ... so I will be getting in touch with Lichfield County Council !!

So I finally got myself to change the fuel filter on my 1.4 TDI - I was a bit afraid of this job (I had an updated drain plug, but I worried about starting the engine afterwards) - and I have to say that this is not a very happy design ... All screws holding the bottom cover broke off (no chance to get them in one piece), making the fuel dip from the bleed screw took 30 minutes and still I had to give several 20s cranking with the starter for the engine to run (it started normally and then cut-of after is used all the fuel from the line.

Happy part is that is is now ok, the filter is new (the old one was from 2012..., all black...) - the car seam to run better now (but is could be just autosugestion).

Nevertheless - this area could have been designed better...

1.9tdi style would have been much better.

Agreed, not a nice job but once it starts you must really hold the revs high without easing off (3-3500 rpms ish).

Good job done now though (but don't leave it quite so long next time 😊)👍

Absolutely! I had a 1.9tdi Caddy for many years and it was a pleasure and so easy to change the fuel filter as it was in a screw top cannister looking directly at you when you lifted the bonnet 👍

Reminds me of my old SAAB,99. Open the bonnet and you see and touch everything you needed to change on a service, now you need special tools for nearly anything you do. Especially VW group.

Gave the new member of the family a good wash and bit of a polish. He is going to need some more intensive care over time, but for now, he looks a lot smarter. Before and after photos below
