Today I.....

I've seen a few comments regarding proximo jacking adapters, and really want a set. Where and how can I buy them?
Hi. There is a thread in the Market Place section (link below) but you cannot see it unless you have paid a £2 one-off fee. Click on your User Name, then Account, then Upgrades. Payment by PayPal.

Link below goes to the last page and work backwards to get the current price and the variation you need and then contact @Proximo

Today has I drove the 7 miles into work I had a new issue.
Has I turned right to cross a road the glow plug light came up on the dash (not happened before) & the car 2003 TDI lost engine revs, just tick over. All else was good. Headlights, heating, steering all fine etc.
I rolled it downhill & into the car park, switched it off and started it back up. No issues, all back to normal.

I've not looked for codes as yet but anyone else had this and what was the issue?

Wouldn't like it to happen on a fast, busy road or M/way

I think it indicates it's gone into "Limp Home" mode. Scan will, (probably), tell you why.
Mac.

Wow, what size winters do you have!? Or are your summers some special lightweight rims?

Winter tyres are soooo much heavier than summmers. If you’re running steel rims with winters vs a lightweight wheel like a pepperpot with a lightweight eco focused summer tyre doubling the weight sounds about right.

Makes sense like for like, although TBH I’ve never found all season tires (also suitable as winters) to be notably heavier than summers. Steels are definitely 1-1.5 kg heavier than pepper pots but sizing up a the total weight becomes much more influenced by wheels alone.

See what code(s) you get from it
Sounds like ecu last connection to the throttle peddle
Off and on again would reestablish the connection if it is an intermittent fault

Pulled the code: 18047
Accelerator position sensor

Hmmm I would say get that looked at. Probably a new set of glow plugs are needed. Have not had the dash light but have had glow plugs changed at 160k miles

Absolutely nothing to do with the glow plugs
The tdi does not have a traditional engine management light in the dash, the flow plug light is the eml for the tdi’s

According to Alcar, the standard 5.5Jx15 ET34 steel rim weighs 6.3kg, so only 0.6kg heavier than the 5.7kg pepperpots.

Alcar 8405 steel rim 6.3kg
5.5Jx15 ET34 5/100 57.1

Helpful info. Got any facts on winter tyre weights vs summer?

That's why I suggested it is in limp mode, and why a scan is a wise thing to do.
Mac.

ehh - ~it is good that there is no scrap yard on my way from the garage to my home as I would probably stop by and continue on foot :)

1. So - I successfully replaced both rear shock absorbers - decided not to replace springs as those are In mint condition (and my replacement Lejsfjors have bigger wire diameter but are a bit shorter.
2. Then I needed to do rear brakes (drums) as the left one was weak from the pedal (handbrake was solid) - and this turn out to be a nightmare ...
- both screws for brake cylinders - have to be drilled out as rust took the head ...
- it was very hard - but I was able to undo the brake lines - but this was scary ...
- taking brake drum off the left side - I almost disassembled the brake via the wheel screw hole...
When I thought all bad things are gone (everything that needed to be unscrewed or dismounted was done - I got struck at too short right handbrake cable ... It moves freely - but with the adjustment nut on the handbrake almost at the end - it is still to short to put the brake brum on ... Dismounted it several times, checked everything ... no success - therefore I had to assemble it with the brake cable disconnected... Bled the system and now I have no handbrake ...

Little update:

I have successfully replaced the right hand brake cable (it went amazingly fast - 30 min job) - and now my car is back to be fully operational :)

Sad thing - after 2 weeks my new brake drums are all rusty from the outside :(

As the same time I have installed several new screws for rear wheel arches to replace the rusty ones :)
