Today I.....

The pipe would need to be able to withstand hot oil vapour and I think nitrile would be a good choice.
But is it doable as a DIY?
It does look like just two pipes held together by jubilee clips on early cars.
My concern is more the shape, as original pipes are bent to fit, something that would be harder to achieve with a generic rubber hose.

Standard nitrile is a minimum requirement imo and a material used for original ones iirc,
I would consider the hydrogenated nitrile or Viton for long-term realibilty.

Today I lick up a full nearside heated door mirror that I saw on eBay I even got the price down by £6 to £34.
Looks to be in a really good condition too.
Now do I strip it our paint it as it's black and mines Dolphin gray.

Just swap over the mirror glass

This proves that genuine exhausts that were fitted when the car was manufactured go on and on.

It's the same for most things and exactly why I insist on sticking with genuine quality parts rather than supporting China and selling your soul buying from Alibaba Carpet Express (or whatever it's called) because it's cheap (but trash) and only lasts a week (if you're lucky). Why people do that is beyond me. It's only an Audi once! 👍

Quality remains long after the price is forgotten.
Or
Buy cheap, buy twice.

Agreed but no one has limitless money and everyone wants a deal, I get that, me included but buying 'cheap quality' is a false economy as you'll be replacing the parts and doing the job again very soon and for most people paying someone else to do the same job again which has obvious significant costs 👍

I don't think anyone would disagree that the parts fitted to our cars, when they were built, (twenty years ago), were of top quality.
Realistically though, most of those top quality original parts are no longer available, and if they were, the selling prices would be astronomical.
Aftermarket, is the only option.
Then we have the apparent lottery of which aftermarket brands are really "OEM Quality"
(Probably none).
There is a small number of "Corporations" that dominate the aftermarket, with a list of "Brands" to sell, (the same), parts, at different price points. These "Corporations" are rarely directly involved in the manufacture of the parts.
There are not really dozens of independent factories producing, (just an example), fuel injectors, probably two or three, and they are likely to be "off shore"
Buy at a mid price point, and hope for the best.
Mac.

No joke, I ❤️ Economics, always have I find it fascinating, the depth of process and the models used to explain it. Got a B in GCSE, well pleased
EDIT
.. My poor brain has forgotten it all now.
Most folk have heard of Adam Smith's invisible hand.

Maybe invisible, but the touch is unmistakable.
When I was educated, my education started, life was much simpler, (if you didn't have the money, you couldn't have it). And, the future was bright, but not orange.

Brake lines, handbrake cable, wiring loom.
Handbrake cable removal required to side the housing off the bracket. 🙂
