Today I.....

Not A2 but still and Audi changed the Thermal Management Water Pump, man this things a beast common issue on this type of engine all seem to leak in a certain area on the plastics. Replaced with the later spec same manufacturer INA but without the Audi stamp was over £120 cheaper. Ill take that!
Was not easy to change TBH. All done now though!
New one on the right

As Forrest would say Stupid is as stupid does. Engineers have lost the plot Plastic for a start.
All done to get get through emissions and get fuel efficiency, which is crazy when extra fuel is added to heat / burn dpf etc. stop / start were the extra cost of the required battery and alternator is passed onto the consumer then there are the ad-blue system more weight with even more expensive sensors required plus it's own injection system.
I'll stick with my 3 Euro 3's. Less to maintain, less to go wrong.

yes i agree very complicated id change water pump on my A2 any day of the week compared to this! The amount of hoses i had to disconnect was ridiculous!

My job today ( Non A2) was to start on the leather seats in the 2004 Volvo S60 D5 we bought in Nov. 21 years of grime.
Will be quite a while to get them back to some kind of std. I need to stitch the open seam in the driver's base. Lots of cracks to fill of course. The backs aren't too bad just need a recolour due to UV fade.
Before and after with Autoglym leather cleaner and several magic eraser sponges the some alcohol cleaner for the bigger creases.
Pot of flexible filler at the ready (plus hours of patience).

Furniture clinic do a very easy to apply re-colour/filler product in one. You just have to through clean the seats first so there no chemicals on it with a degreaser.

Yes thanks Steve, just looking at their How To videos on YouTube again
I got a kit from them last year to do up some front seats for of our 2002 A4.
The seats I got were out of an A4 cabriolet. Heated leather with lumbar support hoping to upgrade our A4 B6.
The project stalled with other things but I got them to the point ready for re colouring. As I've done repairs and filling.

So they could be up for grabs if anyone wanted them or would fit in an A2.

Current colour from the cabriolet is a butter cream.
The colour kit for two seats was just over £100 as I had the colour matched to our A4.

Today I met a lovely couple in Waitrose carpark, Crewkerne.

They have a one owner dark grey 2002 1.4 TDi purchased from Ireland with steel wheels and no remote locking.
It is on about 150,000 miles and is looked after by https://www.amcarsquattro.co.uk/ of Ilminster.
They knew about another light grey A2 in Ilminster which is also fettled by amcars

I mentioned A2OC which they had not heard of and also chatted electric folding bicycles as I was out on my Brompton at the time.

Galvanic Corrosion

20250325_120156-COLLAGE.jpg

The previous three cars I've worked on all had the same issue. Removing the exhaust hanger nut from the captive bolt and it just spins and spins owing to galvanic corrosion in the boot floor.

Had the windshield replaced on the A2, because the original was scratched up so much it affected visibility at night or when the sun is low and it also had a stone chip in the exact center. The improvement is night and day, that was definitely a worthwhile investment. I still want to get a new wiper and I have to get a replacement for the hologram registration sticker, but those will take a couple more days to do.

Today.....
I’m sure we’ve all been there, though I haven’t done it in a long time—since the early 00s, all my cars have been automatics.

I reversed into a parking space at the supermarket, then applied the handbrake with the engine still running. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the car appear to roll forward, so I slammed on the anchors while pulling the handbrake tighter. That’s when I realised the car next to me was reversing out, and the A2 wasn’t rolling forward at all. o_O

Today at the weekend I changed my track rod ends.

I’d hoped to fix a clunk that I hear when turning the steering to park but… it’s still there.
