Today I.....

My Grey one has stiff gear cables, I am convinced it's because some idiot has bent them whilst removing the gearbox. You can see and feel the cable snagging in the sleeve.
Stiff gears on Mr silver were sorted by replacing the gearbox and nothing else (car was bought with no 5th gear so a JDD box was fitted)
I fitted an 02R box to Mr Grey too but it's not much better. I have a set of cables on my parts car so when I get chance will remove and fit these.

Audrey has just ticked over onto 180k miles.

350 of those expended today on a business trip, with this stablemate for company:

There’s still rather a lot of Mk1 TTs in everyday use from what I’ve seen.

Today I got the final finish coats on a rear seat for Smurf. Recoloured in Cream n Black, to match the headlining. Still need to mask n spray the plastic parts black, but need to let the finish coat harden before masking up, again!

So they were cream and now you've added black stripes or the other way? Is that furniture clinic stuff? Well done and great weather for it!!

They were the OEM Cream which was too dark, so recoloured in a custom mixed cream, then masked and sprayed the black, then finish coats. The black dries super quick this weather!
Using a Furniture Clinic Recolouring Kit.
On the next seat I will spray the plastics satin black before recolouring.

Today I found my Audi thought it was a Tesla with AutoPilot. It took an unattended trip across the works car park and hit two other cars on the opposite side of the parking deck.
Handbrake was on. At what mileage interval do brake shoes need to be replaced? 😞

Maybe 1m ilea less than on your odometer
The reason I always leave mine in gear plus it doesn’t stretch the cables
I’ve done this for the last 40 years 20 of those I owned a triumph stag and one of its poorer features was the hand brake
Hope the damage was minimal

Keeping this to a minimum of words:

- 4 days.
- 626 miles covered on 6 long trips.
- 70mph cruising speed.
- 40.7 litres of diesel used.

That’s about 70mpg over the tank. What a car.

Edit: I’ve found a new fuel station locally that seems to consistently sell the cheapest diesel for miles around, conveniently on the A303 just up the road! Currently the price is £1.32/l which is quite a saving over the £1.49/l I was paying for a long time previously.

So today I popped up to my friends place up north of Dunfermline, to work on my A2. Final adjustment on the rear brakes in order to try and balance them so they lock up and release evenly. I went there in my Mk1 TT 225 roadster and, yes, the roof was down all the way there and back. I also washed the A2 as it has been languishing in a very dusty shed for nearly two years and was covered in a thick coat of dust and dirt. Inside also got treated to a vacuum clean as the various work visits had resulted in some of the dirt and dust being carried into the car on me, my work clothes and shoes altering the condition of the seats and carpets from very presentable to distinctly shabby! Very satisfying result and the car now looks considerably better. MOT time is looming and a couple more visits are required this month to finalise one or two minor issues which would be unwelcome on the test ramp, brake warning symbol on the dash ( all new discs/pads/slide pins and rubber sleeves, and new cylinders/shoes/fitting kit/drums/plastic buttons) I suspect the pad wear connector is shorting out. The other issue may be a rear ABS sensor but I need to scan and check. The brakes were appaling on the car when I got it so it's all been replaced in the past year. I'll post up a couple of pictures once I can work out how to get then onto this tablet. Life seems better in an Audi. I get to pick from my A2, TT or A4 Avant.

Didn't you just get it MOT'd? Surely the effectivness of the handbrake would have been checked?

This was my original long term Red A2. The recent MOT was for the silver A2. The MOT is due in July on red A2. The car feels okay and brakes and generally doesn't roll away. Handbrake adjuster had been tightened just a few weeks ago so that 3 or 4 clicks is sufficient (normally).

I was wondering, whilst working on the latest A2, is there anyway to tell if a newly purchased A2 TDI has had ECU map applied? It feels pretty fast already. The rumours are that many have been chopped already by this stage in their life.
Should I just list my number plates and someone says yay or nay in a DM?
