Today I.....

I wonder how much swearing there's been. Changing the dashboard is a total nightmare if you've not done it before.
In the day it occurred, they tried to convinced me that it was very fragile because of the sun and bla bla bla ...that it was an accident!
I accept that it was an accident ,but ??‍♂️That was not cracked into a hundred pieces before ...
Yup it was a real nightmare...I went there during the job and it was ...nice ,that they were the ones doing it ?

Wow, I bet that looks just mint ... take lots of interior photos while it still does! I wonder where they found one?
O miss this mint look ...

realised I misdiagnosed my tandem pump / brake servo issue.... though I now know how to prime a replacement fuel pump :)

However I did fix the fault - after finding a diagram on line for the vacuum circuit.
I didnt give much thought to what else is under vacuum, but remembered there are some solenoids next to the N75.
Running the car i checked the hoses and I found a hose had popped off.......The brakes do feel much stronger so Im not too worried about changing the tandem pump.

Today I Tore down the passenger door card with the door closed and opened upp the door to try to hack away the lock and mount my new door lock...just before I attacked the lock I put the cable on the new lock and it was nothing more then a series of clicking in the window module, then I checked the cables and all was looking good so I finaly tore down the plastic in the footwell and did a bit of wiggeling on the conector to the door and the lock laying on the seat clicked ! I moved the cable to the old lock in door and it unlocked! So now I have an open door, a spare lock and lots of stuff to put back in the door ? it has allso been dark for about an hour and I am doing this with a flashlight outside but I am still happy ..ish

today I tried to make too many changes in my tdi ... and since I had problems recolocating the alternator I had to call my wife to go where i was working to rescue me with another car (I live 120 miles from where I have space to play the mechanics in the car).

It had time to change:

- rear shock absorbers
- front shock absorbers
- cups and cup bearings
- ball joints
- stabilizer braces
- stabilizer silentblocks
- fabia tdi dogbone
- oem gearbox oil
- air filter
- engine oil and filter
- febi thermostat
- front discs
- front brake pads
- left driveshaft

Next weekend I have to:
- replace the alternator (it has been impossible for me to put it in place)
- make distribution with water pump
- fuel filter with Depronman screw

I hope that everything goes well and I can test the car with everything renewed. Seeing how bad the old parts were, I think it will give a good change

Today I decided to sort out my misted up fog lights. Removed the units, took apart what I could, cleaned and replaced. They look so god that I may need to attempt the head lights at some point.

Before and after shot and then back on the car.

They look great - did you polish the glass & if so what did you use?

Thanks,
John

I used a normal car glass cleaner which I would normally use on the windows. The outside is obviously easy, the inside however I had fashion a cloth attached to a brush head and feed through gap where the bulb goes as i didn’t want to separate the glass from the unit (it looked sealed). Thereafter I took a hair drier to it to ensure any moisture evaporated before reassembly.
