Today I.....

The 'mini DIS' system displays instantaneous mpg whilst moving. When you come to a stop, it displays the mpg that the car was doing just prior to stopping. During engine braking, the TDI cuts off the fuel supply to the engine. As such, at standstill, you often see insane mpg figures.

Cheers,

Tom
I miss having DIS, I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to this sort of stuff. Look forward to when we mee and get Colour DIS installed and running.

My first A2 I ordered DIS, I’ve just bought my second A2 (14 year gap) and it’s not got DIS so forgot how it operated. Colour DIS is on my radar and in discussion with timmus on it and then I’ll be able to see more info.

What you see in the photos above isn't DIS but 'mini DIS'. It's the standard, non-DIS instrument cluster (as you currently have fitted in your A2), programmed to display instantaneous mpg in addition to outside air temperature. There are no buttons to control it and its behaviour is slightly different to the instantaneous mpg display of the proper DIS system. Mini DIS wasn't available from factory. It's a TDI-only mod.

Yes, very much looking forward to meeting you soon. And if you're a geek about data display, you can't beat Colour DIS. Expect a PM within the next few days. :)

Cheers,

Tom

I’ve learned an immense amount being on this forum which has given me the confidence to tackle some interesting stuff myself. I’m am a bit of a DIY expert and prepared to tackle most things subject to having the knowledge. This forum gives me A2 knowledge to which I’m thankful to the numerous contributors. It helps that everyone seems to be like minded and a great group of people.

I wish I’d never sold my first A2 which was perfectly specced (for me), Heated sports leather, DIS, symphony, SE spec TDI75).

On Saturday I was finally able to finish the changes on my A2. I was able to put the alternator in place without wasting much time (last Sunday I was already very tired (and a little desperate because I had to go home) and I didn't think clearly :p)

Then I tried to change the fuel filter (I had bought the Depronman screw in anticipation of it breaking), but I couldn't get it out. The screw turns crazy in both directions and I didn't want to try to force as I had to take the car to use it. I'm afraid that what's broken is the thread in the filter casing :(.

Then I go with the timing belt and water pump. Following internet instructions, it was easy and I had no problems with the 4 allen screws of the pulley (I was afraid they would break). The screws have been changed to others that carry the Torx head that are no longer passed).

The problem came to me as the old distribution was not perfectly positioned (the screws of the camshaft pulleys were butt to one side) and the housing mark "3Z" was not fully centered. Therefore, the tool did not enter well into the camshaft and when removing the belt moved from its place losing the reference.

In the end, after a few minutes of "panic", I thought a little and using the reference of the mark "3Z" I was able to fit the camshaft hole well and leave everything absolutely centered (the camshaft screws, the "3Z" mark and the crankshaft. The car started perfectly and I was able to get home without any problems. Water Pump was a Valeo from 2013 and the other components were "original audi" dated from 2008. So, I think that cambelt kit has 130k miles and the wáter pump has 105K miles.

I've already made him 150 miles and I'd say it's softer.

So I have to give it a thought to how to do the fuel filter thing, which must be very very stuck :(

I also took the opportunity to change the brake pads to another of my cars (A Seat Leon ST FR 1.8 TSI) and also do a road test to my Opel (Vauxhall) Kadett 1.8 GT from 1987, that I restored after an accident between the front wheel and a sidewalk)

A picture of the three pots.

Wow you’ve been really busy , I had to do the.cambelt etc when my belt stripped 32 teeth off last year, it’s a good feeling when it starts up ??

I had the same issue with the filter housing. As advised by Depronman, I put in a flat headed electrical screwdriver and turned it anti-clockwise. The plastic of the drain screw is soft enough that it will come out just by the screwdriver end digging in slightly.

I was in contact with depronman during the fuel filter change… but I was afraid to broke the housing and not to be able to return home :D
Next time I Will try doing what Depronman suggest me (and you) :D

Very grateful for the support @depronman gave me :D

Frustrating day today started with a flat tyre. Booked a slot at my local dealer for a double front replacement, only to be thwarted by a flat battery. RAC turned up this evening after a seven hour wait. Battery jump and spacesaver used in anger for the first time. Will try to set out for the Audi dealer again tomorrow, just hope the automotive gods are smiling...

Had my Black Friday new front tyres fitted, drop down to 195-50-16 on the front and put the 205-50-16’s on the rear, that’s stopped the full lock tyre rub, must admit I think the smaller tyres look better, I will go all round with them next time. Kumho Ecsta were the sweet spot for me, price V noise V economy.

Just received my early Bday present today. Brand new headlight ?

Is there a way to identify if this is a single or splittable unit?

Happy birthday, try taking the retaining clips off (mine had one at the top and one at the bottom), if it comes loose easily then a splittable, if not then this a single unit. Having taken mine off today, mine are a single unit so somewhat difficult to clean the inside.

Today I,

Took off my headlights, cleaned as much as I could (non splittable later units) and replaced. They now match my fogs which I cleaned last week!

Strangely spooky pic of my A2 without it’s headlights.
