Today I have refurbished 3 off Aero wiper arms and 1 hook style wiper arm paint is drying ATM then the hook arm is ready for member @Barts134 who wanted one and the three Aero wiper arms are available to who ever needs one on a first come first served basis. It’s the first time in months that I have got 3 of my 4 aero wiper arms here at the same time
Cheers

Today it was a wash and spray wax with some Dunlop Hydro Wax. Seems sensible stuff given it was £1.99 for a 500ml trigger pack.

Last weekend it was renewing the off-side fog lamp, upgrading low beam H7 lamps with the Osram Nightbreaker Laser lamps, also placing LED in the side lamp position and re-aligning them all.
Great improvement in low beam, but I put this down mainly to the re-alignment. I've realised just how even the spread of light can be, with minimal hot-spots.

Prior to Christmas, the suspension had four new OE dampers with top mounts and bump stops. The old dampers were rather shot at 136k miles. Together with a new track rod end and tracking, she now drives rather well.

To round out the improvements the wheels were refurbished and fitted with Bridgestone A005 all-season tyres.

We do like our little A2 and, after six years good service, we thought it was about time we repaid her with some TLC.

Not really today.... but earlier this week I had Quatro-tech whilst I was in Peterborough replace the drivers door-check strap, and also check and replenish the air-con ready for summer.

.....went to Portsmouth Audi to see if they could supply some early service history for the Dog, sorry, Dolphin, which came with absolutely nothing when I bought it. The very helpful service engineer could only locate one entry in 2005 with the mileage at 28500, and gave me an apologetic smile when he saw the disappointment on my face. “It could be worse, Sir,”, he added, “ the other week we had an A4 in here with 60000 miles showing and still on it’s original oil”.

Today I bought a spline bit set and adjusted the drivers door.

When closing there was a 2-3mm visible gap it at the top of the frame and therefore not sealing properly. Non-issue day to day however wind noise evident on the motorway.

It turns out it only needed one bolt tightening on the a-pillar hinge and a minor readjustment on the latch on the b-pillar and now a door that closes as Audi intended. Simpler than expected and knowing how simple, I should have done it sooner. ?

I’m running out of things to do to it now (2 items left on my initial list however neither are necessary). Any thoughts on what else to do to it (in keeping with OEM) for a novice wannabe mechanic?

Changed the rear brake shoes with fitting kits (Meyle), new drums (Pagid) changed then on to oil and oil and air filters. On the to do list change brake fluid, clean EGR valve and clean seat belts with the bucket soapy water and clip method.

Replacing pressed steel wishbones with cast, possibly shocks/ springs replacement and a good pampering to the engine, hopefully restoring the original power output. Basically a deluxe service ☺
Cool, “replacing pressed steel wishbones with cast” is something will need doing at some point on my car. When I changed my gearbox oil there I noticed some surface corrosion however what I didn’t check was what corrosion was inside. The next time I jack it up with wheels off I’ll inspect properly.

If possible when yours is done could you ask what it costs for just that to be done and send me a PM as I’d like to know what the ball park figure would be unless it’s itemised.

Thanks in advanced.

I will attempt to do the same as Sally’s car is in the garage for exactly the same today only along with full bilstein suspension change the tdi meyle control arms were about £67 each ..I will see if Andy can apportion labour coasts might not be that easy but will give you an idea ..?

Sure, no probs. Few horror stories recently where wishbones failed suddenly due to internal rust so I decided to tackle this now rather than driving while exercising my sphincter ?

Brilliant thank you, it will be useful to compare prices and then depending on condition either wait or get it done. That is the only mechanical thing that I think will need attention having inspected the condition of nearly everything else which is fine.

Is the arm replacement always via removal of the subframe console and new rear arm bush?

On a different note please be aware that front brake flexis perish just before the clip holder in the center of the hub, noticed mine by accident upon removal of the brake caliper!
